The factory speakers in my car are shot, they sound horrible. I'm looking for a direct drop in, is there anything available?
I have an aftermarket Sony head unit that will be powering the speakers, just looking for something that'll pop right in...

I am also interested in finding out what the options for replacement speakers are. My speakers are shot. I just replaced my Factory Reno raido with the equalizer on my 89 turbo with a Becker Grand Prix 7990 from Becker Autosound. Great head unit BTW.

There are some options if running aftermarket headunit and/or amplifier. The factory setup with crossover used non standard resistance speakers, 6ohm if I recall correctly and were rated a very low amperage. There are some nice 2 and 3 passive component setups, and the rear has some really nice options with advancement in speaker technology. There are some nice 6.5 subwoofers or mid woofers with component tweeter that will fit nicely in the stock rear location. CDT Audio, Rainbow, Focal and Dynaudio should all have something that blows the factory speakers away. I would look into the shallow 5 1/4 2 ways for front you will have to block off the small mid speaker in the front door, but you will not loose any range. Any of these speakers will outperform our old Nokia speakers by light years. CDT audio has recently come out with a super slim line. I am sure there are less expensive options. Next paragraph
As for true drop in replacement speakers you should be able to piece I decent setup together at http://www.parts-express.com/

Here is a thread and some linked threads with sizing info/ options.

If I had the know how, I'd make a direct replacement fiberglass panel with standard size cut outs.
