From my experience, a fresh tight engine burns cleaner than an old tired engine. It's important to have good rings, good fresh valvestem seals, a good seal on the valve seats. These engines also benefit from a decent quench area between piston and head to generate some turbulence and promote a complete, even burn. This is an important point since the typical piston/rod height of the hybrid stroker leaves the piston slightly below the deck unless the block is shaved down.

Dave, did you shave your block down? I don't believe I've read about others doing this on their stroker builds (or did I miss it)?

Yes, approx .015" IIRC. Standard resurfacing typically removes .001" to .003"
Also, the head gasket I used is .040" thick, while the typical HG is .051". This is also why my thread takes a turn to discuss cam timing difference with a shaved deck. I compensated for the lower deck height by using an offset cam key set to advance cam timing by 2*.

By standard gasket do you mean the OEM 951 gasket squishes to 0.051? I have been using 0.039 for my calculations.

Sid, you planning on running street outlaws this Saturday? I did some work on the atom, thinking about running it. Possibly the 991 turbo S but Im not sure it will be ready by then.

Yeah, planning on coming down again. Was going to do bandimere, but they are now doing a make up day instead of a test day.

I have done a little work that should help out a bit more.

It should be interesting since the ground will be a bit colder. I don't think I'll be close to the top guys, but should do better than last time.

oops, yes you're right. I was thinking of the thickness of a HG that compensates for a decked block and head.

Best backed up pass 11.17@ 130

Long time.... Good to see you're still around here.

That is running really well.

I need to make it out the track next summer....and upgrade my fuel pump. I am pretty sure I am out of fuel with the stock pump. Last time I was at bandimere (you were there) I was dailing up the fuel, but the AF wasnt increasing.

I have an -044 pump sitting in the basement, just been to lazy to install it.

Kicking off 2015 without a hitch.

Got bored today and decided to go up to the track. It's still a little cold and traction was limited but..... The car worked great. Right off the road it went 11.46 @ 129.

Why is this so special?? Well, I haven't touched under the hood at all over the winter, the car has literally been sitting outside at the shop in the rain and snow with the occasional drive to and from home. I also had the boost set to 16 psi and stayed on my old worn out street tires.

I really didn't plan on going at all because 1) I need to replace the clutch disc 2) I don't have my spare axles with me (my girl accidentally took them with to TX in her truck).

I was warned right away that I got away with going to fast last year and I need to slow down or install safety stuff. I'm not intending on putting a bar in it now because I'm building my new little toy.
So, today I was just messing around seeing if I could break 130 at under 16psi. I didn't quite do it, but got close.

Here are some pics of what's taking my attention lately. The cage should be finished this week.

11.46@129 at 16psi, at 5,280 ft? Must be using that Fred Flinstone mono-tire in the back... Nice work...congrats!

Thanks

The air measured 6100ft today. Which is a lot better than normal up here. It's usually around 8000ft or more. It was also very cool today, so it really made easy power. I'd usually need to run around 20+ psi to get this mph.

I was surprised it went that fast. I was expecting a low 12. I did turn it down as far as possible today(14psi) and went 11.8 at 126. This head really makes power.

If I showed a pic of my rear tires, you'd laugh. They are are now showing cords lol.

edit.: oner change I made over the: winter is to add coil over helper springs. I think that really picked up some time on the short end due to not havign the wasted motion going on.

Be careful with the tires -- I had one like that shred on me, which will wake you up in a hurry at speed! Which coil overs did you get and how do they affect street manners? While I secretly want to do a wheelie (!), it sure we be helpful to reduce the way my car squats.... I'm just trying to keep it nice and street friendly though.
