Anybody ever seen this before??
I just rebuilt the engine and took it for its fist drive. I boost around 15 psi and got a puff of smoke. I limped home and found this.
Engine runs ok but leaking obviously from the crack.
I'm soo sad![crying](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/bigcry.gif)

Probably need to lower the boost for the first few hundred miles then gradually increase the boost. I've never seen a crack in the cam cover, very odd. Was it torqued down too much? Thankfully they are not that expensive and easy to find.

Something hit HARD from inside, I'd check the cam really carefully to see if it took any damage. That cam tower is really quite tough, I'm surprised to see anything damage it.
Also, what would boost have to do with this? If anyone is thinking that blowby would overpressure the crank and cause this, you're nuts!

Let us know for sure. I do have a spare tower, but only if you can't find one quickly, kind of like to hold onto it, but would be a legit excuse to go to Myrtle Beyatch!
Especially as nice as the weather has been. I'm in Albany, Ga.

Looks like a loose bolt to me. I would not run it again until you replace the cam assembly, next time it could do really expensive damage. I just checked Ebay and saw lots of 944T cam assemblies for between 90-150 dollars.

That's almost certainly due to a loose something in the cam tower. Its very hard to see how high boost could cause that damage unless something in the valve train broke and lodged between the cam and the housing. The cam and the lifters need to be looked at very carefully, along with the valves on #3 and #4.
