Default Can this turbo be saved w/ new compressor wheel?

<----

Standard K26/6 on a 1987 951 motor. I bought the whole motor but the head is off the block. Cylinder walls don't look bad, minor scratches if anything. Might take it to SFR to see if they can re-condition them. No intercooler, but I imagine it is wasted with turbo shrapnel.

Story is a 13mm bolt somewhere came loose and the compressor wheel ate it. I can get another compressor wheel and housing if needed pretty easily, but it's unlikely that the new assembly would be in balance.

Is this turbo worth saving, or should I clean it up and use it as a paperweight?

IMO i'll put it this way

- It doesn't make that much power, just drops of at 6000rpm to 12 psi.
- fixing it (back to a k26/6) won't be worth it, But you could use it as a k27/6 if you get a k27 front housing and turbine
- retro fitting a gt compressor wheel would be pointless since the biggest drawback is the #6 rear housing which causes to much back pressure.

Use it as a paperweight imo.

I need a junk turbo for a mock-up project if you decide you don't want to fix it.

Paperweight or make it a K27/HX35/T04E #6 hybrid (the hotside could also be worked).

Isn't that a Pre****sion Moron Sports quick spool turbo? They sell them in their site. That's one of their finest items

any idea what the core would be worth to someone looking to do such a conversion?

everyone knows the path to power starts with a clipped compressor wheel.

$50-75 tops. The buyer would really only be paying for the CHRA, most everything else would be scrapped, modified or replaced during a rebuild/hybrid build with the exception of maybe the turbine wheel (depends on the build).

I had a similar thing happen to me except it was 10 mm socket. I replaced mine with another K26/6. I should have upgraded.

You'll spend the same amount fixing it that you could buy a good used K26 for.

i wouldn't want to buy a used k26. i really don't see why people wouldn't replace the k26 if it dies. Unless you're racing under rules and regulations, or you want a 100% Stock car..
