Question is my car a turbo s model???

I was wondering if anyone knew how to read the vin# and tell me what means what...and if my car is a turbo s or not(the guy i bought it from didnt know) i have hitch attached in the front grill of the car which looks like it is attached to the frame. You know like in the pca cars...when something would happen the tow truck could easily pull up and hookup to the car(it is a screw in type).Does this mean a cup car?? is it after market?? and how can i tell? It also has a spot that has been molded over with paint on the passenger side like a kill switch was there. Anyway any help would be appreciated thanks again. the vin # is as follows WPOAA2958JN150096

I'm not sure about the vin. I think, if your car is an '88, it'll say turbo "s" on the back (not all '88s were turbo "s"). If it's an '89, they were all turbo "s" spec cars.

But, all the cars have the tow hook spot in the front bumper. If you car still has the tool kit, you should have the screw in eye bolt.

I just did a carfax on your car to see and e-mailled it to you.
It doesn`t say anything about being a turbo s so it`s probably not.

look at the sticker in the spare tire well with the option codes. M758 is the turbo S designation. I don't think that it is, it's got the orig. phonedials, right. Let us know.

Sorry, Slev.. but the Turbo S's in 88 did NOT say "Turbo S" on the back, at least NOT factory. The wheels are a dead giveaway, phone dials are non TS. Massive front brakes are another tell-tale, but usually you need something to compare it to. Wheels and brakes can be swapped, but the M758 on the option list is the kicker. Also, the engine will be stamped "52" by the block vin.
Anyone know if the under the armrest door speakers were a Turbo S thing or just an 89 thing? It is one of the major interior differences.

porshhh951,
According to your seriel number, you do not have an "S" modeled '88. '88 Turbo S' started with numbers 97JN50001 and up. Your 95JN150001+ is the straight Turbo for '88.

Here's a good link: http://www.cantonia.com/specifications.html
Look under the "engine specifications by year" category.

I thought that the only 944's that were Turbo S were the 88's with SilberRosa coloured bodies with the Redleather/plaid cloth interiors.

All other's were simply "turbo" WITHOUT the S.

correct me if I'm wrong.

A friend of mine used to have black 1988 Turbo S.
It has the same interior as those "Silber Rosa" cars.
The very first cars were Silver rose, then factory decided to release it with other colors as well.I have seen black, red & silver 1988 Turbo S cars. All of these had that same interior as Silver rose cars. They also had ten speaker audio system.

The interiors of the 88 S's weren't all plaid burgundy, they came in the full spectrum. All colors, all interiors. To be technically correct, only the 88's were Turbo S's. The 89s were just "Turbos", but with all the S goodies. We may call them Turbo S's, just to differentiate, but the 89s weren't. They weren't 952s either. But the ARE one heck of a package!

I'll also add that my Canadian Turbo S does not have the 10 speaker stereo. It also doesn't have airbags, either... it does have the funky disco plaid interior option thou

I think the standard 'accessories' on the TurboS (non-performance related) are anything but standard....

The Turbo S was introduced as a mid-year variant. Early production '88 Turbos were of the "standard" variety. My '88 Turbo (non-S) was manufactured in January of '88 and its VIN ends with JN151405. Therefore, JN150096 was a very early car and thus not a Turbo S.

I don't think any of the turbo S's had the S on the back.
