Too much boost
I haven't installed a manual boost controller or any gauges yet, but I will. It's just that I'm a little concerned with what the stock boost gauge is reading. It reads 2 Bar. at 3600 rpm in third gear. Is the gauge accurate? What should I do?
Thanks.
Thanks.

2 bar is actually 1 bar. "one bar" is natually ambient pressure and anything less than one bar is VACUUM. 2 bar is with in spec for a shimmed wastegate I am told.

Silver,
The factory gauge is close until it reaches 2 bar (15 pounds) At that point the factory gauger stops climbing. You could have higher than 15 pounds of boost but you would never know it with the stock gauge. Add a good gauge just to be sure.

Mike,
My car's gauge is pretty darn accurate past 2 bar (1). I can't find any one else's car who does this but I also have a VDO gauge mounted on the panel supplied by you guys with my MBC. They both read very closely? When I got the car it made 1 bar without a shim. how is this possible?(stock chips) I was hoping you could answer these questions that nobody else has been able to.
any light shedding would be much appreciated!

When my car was boosting to 18psi...I noticed that if I rolled onto the throttle before the boost threshhold...I would see the gauge peg 2 bar (1 bar boost) and then a second later I'd feel the surge of power...Now at 13psi they occur at basically the same time..
Just something I've noticed...

Luke,
First things that comes to mind is that the cycling valve was drilled.
I had a local customer a year ago that told me his bone stock 86 951 was the fastest car like it he had ever driven, I drove it and he was right.
No obvisious mods at all. I offered to install a LBE to see if it would improve it any and he didn't want to.
A month later he called back, the car had been in for an oil change and the Mechanic noticed that the hard line to the wastegate was cracked and was leaking control pressure, thus the wastegate was not operating at it normally would. Higher than stock boost, around 2 bar combined with much harder acceleration. Once they fixed the line, guess what, the car slowed down, a lot!
The next day he was in buying a LBE to get his performance back, once installed, he test drove it and said the power was back and even better than before except the boost didn't go quite as high as it did with the broken line.
I would bet in your situation that it is the drilled cycling valve, if something else comes to mind I'll let you know.
Check out our new Intercooler we are coming out with in about 2 weeks, sneak preview is on the websight now.

Thank you Mike. Do you have any Idea why might gauge operates above 2 bar? I know there are no tick marks but the needle moves porportionally.

We already know Luke has a super special car! Anyway, when I run my car at 18-20psi, the stock boost gauge goes beyound the 2bar mark. There's no stop for the needle.

Thanks guys. Sorry for the late reply. I'm busy getting money together so I can start upgrading. I think I'll get the gauges before I do anything.

I thought my SS lines nicely firmed up the feel of the pedal and cut down travel, I like a firm pedal with little travel, so the lines and Hawk pads were a nice upgrade.
