Does dumping 5 Qts of oil in my engine during a track w/e count as changing my oil?

Well, they have to be at least in 12th grade or its illegal. I had never thought of switching to a different grade for winter – I guess I will have to contemplate that…..

Not always a great idea to use a Racing oil for a street car.

VR-1 is fine. Some race oils don't have quite the same ZDDP / detergent / and other 'stuff' / package and need to be changed out more regularly.

We all know I basically only look at my car...but

I bought 2 cases of VR-1 20-50w after reading many threads discussing this matter and thought I was "enlightened" on the subject. Then I recently read an article (http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/motor-oil-101/) descibing how on start-up oil viscosity was much more important to preserving an engine then operating weight (to an extent). A 20-50w may be better for the track where operating tempatures remain high and start and stop is limited but for my street only that sits more then anything I thought a lighter weight "start-up" oil might be better?

I now think I'll run Mobile Racing 0-50w as the only drawback I can see is the effect of the added ZDDP on my cat...if I had one. Since the PO used Mobile as well, it seems right.

Thoughts?

You have to be careful with lower grades because they strip easier. Upside is less torque.

Don't believe everything you read in BITOG. It's as subjective as many practitioners of M1.
