M-Tune with E85 vs Pump Gas
#46
Regarding fuel consumption, the official data from the gas station in Norway tells you to expect a 30% increase in fuel consumption with E85. I live 5 min from a E85 pump, but it's really hard to bring 150L of it in a 944 to the track.

Well yeah there is that! Doesn't the ALM series use E 85?

If you guys are really concerned with mileage you may think about talking to Josh about a custom tune. You may need to delete the o2 sensor, but if you do a lean burn you can dramatically increase in mileage.

Blown, we are talking about a smaller margin for error when having a leaner tune is involved, correct?
You want better mileage keep the rpms low and dont boost it too much.

OK I'm taking about a lean AFR at part throttle and idle. Some of the stuff on my yet to be installed pile, include a piggy back that allows for PT Tracking of AFR's and the newer Zetronixcs O2's allow you to send a leaner AFR to the ECU for PT and idle.
Doesn't change WOT AFR's, that's my understanding? Don't want a economy tune , I know it's not a Smart Car!

I run mine at around 17-18:1 between 2500 and 3400 rpm at high vacuum. Also there is a bit more timing added.

OK lean burn between 2500 and 3400 and added timing? I'm not going there (change the timing) but is that part of the chip program or a piggy back? How'd you change the timing?

Replace it with a Walbro from Pauer Tuner and call it preventative maintenence. You don't want to find out you have too little fuel too late. Replace the in tank sock filter and the 60* rubber bend that comes off the nipple of the tank filter and goes to the pump.

Fortunately for me, I live 20 minutes from the creator of the kit being talked about in this thread. Funny though that when we go tuning we end up closer to Nebraska :-)

Aww gotcha! Wondered why I'd not heard of that, (lean burn + more timing). So it's a kids don't try this at home deal!
