That's a cool car with some history but they won't get that money for it....unfortunately. I'd be lucky to get $70k for my car...probably wouldn't. Cents back for dollars spent... :-(
That car needed a turbo motor in it too. Not that it would be too difficult but it couldn't compete at WTAC.

It is turbocharged, 600 HP, and it finished 3rd in WTAC. Not too bad.

Were you thinking it was the Amemiya JGTC car powered by a NA 3 rotor? If you were, that is a different car and in a museum. This one is a clone built specifically or WTAC.

Yes, must have mixed up my RX's. Interestingly, for a 'ProClass' car, we could beat it's best time in our car now (if we had a motor ;-) ) which is only 'Open'. 2 classes below. ie, less mods available. Just goes to show how quickly time marches forwards.
That's an interesting read and just goes to show how much time and money go into some of these cars! That thing should be stupidly fast looking at the build spec.

Thanks Rom...you must be a speed reader! A bit different from yours but both are interesting in their own ways. We hope to join you with a twin cam 16v motor sometime this year.

I have to say you have made much more than me and your work is i think more difficult than what i'm doing. I'm trying to do a replica but you've done a race car creation with all the new equipments and for this congratulation

Been quite a while since I was last on RL but I needed my dose of Patrick's car. Sorry to hear about the engine! Good news is that otherwise the car looks truly awesome.
And that's fantastic you got to drive a V8 supercar. I'm enjoying that they have been coming Stateside the last couple of years -- they're a joy to watch.

The V8 was fun. Pity I wasn't really up to the task mentally as I'd like another go with my head screwed on a bit tighter! I was pretty nervous about damaging it in any way, so I didn't drive it very hard. Enough to feel the potential and also how much it danced on the throttle. SQ shifter is still on my list but there will be at least 2 other cars with one of these before me.

So we've decided to build up an 8v motor to run until the 16v one is done. Due to the high level of customisation on the 16v the timeline on that is somewhat unknown.
We were going to 'throw together' an 8v from bits and pieces just to circulate, but it turns out that this little motor should be quite interesting in it's own right. We've just decided to order some non stock length rods which will allow us to run some nicer forgings offered from CP. The rods will be Carillo. Both these brands are under the one 'Pankl' roof. The pistons will be lighter and have a smaller pin plus located higher up in the piston. Less likely for the piston to 'fall over' at the top of the stroke. The crank is a modified stock unit but certainly not knife edged. (It has been cleaned up since this pic) We feel that the knife crank was one of the main reasons for our previous engine's disintegration. The builder (Neil Harvey of Performance Developments) also has strong feelings against X drilling. The head has massive intake ports and larger valves. It will be flowed later this week along with the worked 16v head we already have. Should be very interesting. Has a very high lift cam in it and solid tappets. We should be able to rev and continue to make power beyond 7500rpm.
What I am somewhat curious about is the size of the intake runners on our current version and if they will be too small for the head? I don't have the i.d. of those runners to hand but they will be significantly smaller than the ports.
So, will this just create some RAM effect and be fine or will it present a blockage or choke point? Should we open up the intake now and make changes or just suck it and see. ID of Bellmouths are 50mm so you can make guess on runners. I'll know next week.

I have never seen a port opened up that much. Not much gasket area left! I wonder how much wall thickness is left? I am interested in what Harry thinks, but it is so large that if the runner is significantly smaller, flow will slow when it expands at the head. What size are the valves?
My tests on the flow bench always showed that everything is controlled by the valve and the valve is limited by shrouding. The port needs to be "big enough" but making it bigger never showed improvement. Curious to see your results.

Yes, I was curious about the gasket too Shawn. The flow will slow some but I wonder by how much? We tend to theorise about situations in a simple 'snap shot' method but under plenty of boost and with some RAM I wonder just how much it is possible to slow when turning 1000's of rpms? I think the valves are around 43ex and 49In. Max intake lift is .595" so it may even be the intake that is the limiting factor.

Will be interesting to see the flow numbers compared to mine. I have similar valves but much smaller ports, yours are HUGE! Hopefully Sid will have some numbers for me this week. I am not running that kind of lift though, almost 600 lift? What spring combo are you using? Did you have to have custom springs made?
