Could the 951 be the new Supra?
#61
I owned an 86 RX7 and sold it because the apex seals went south at 90K. I liked how the japs improved on the quiker steering, the rear toe-in mechanism of the trailing arms and the beefier control arms and bushings. So Much so I "re-heisted" the front control arm design and adapted it to the 944...so who stole whose cookies?

Do like I did, go with a 12" Clutch
That reminds me. I got a spare bump-stop kit to sell off if anybody hardcore drags. $80 to any US-48.

And No, the 951 is not a Supra unless you can stab a bullet-proof trans. The only "Supra" 944 I know of is being built by Eric Hill....
Nas-T and the rear will take some abuse too.

i think the 924/944 started with a fairly-spotless clean sheet of paper. there is definitely something going on with the evolution of a long list of cars.... early roots might include the Jaguar E-types, Ferrari Daytonas, Opal GT, 240Zs, but even expand toward the the Javelin, Vega, Monza, and finally, the 924/944/968s, Supras, Infinity G cars and on and on, but i'd get into real trouble to even hazard a guess where such a discussion would begin or end... or if i'm even willing to take responsibility for this post.

I only got into a few pages here but I'm with Sid. These cars are fun, not meant for drag races, but I kick the hell out of a lot of cars with mine.
I've done consistent high 10s low 11s with my car. And I spent four clutches doing it. I've raced Dave Kodayer's 900whp Supra, and it took him till 160 mph or so to catch up to me. He didn't load up the turbo before taking off. If he did, it would be a different story. There are a lot of fast cars here in Las Vegas, and I'm one of them. The supras are heavy and need a lot of time to build boost. You build a 951 right and it's history for most cars you encounter. I can even out edge a Ferrari 430 and run neck and neck with a mucielago.
ordurandina, my car is already 509 whp on an unloaded dyno. Another Rennlister Pete, in Arizona was there to see it. It was my first time meeting him. He was more interested in my girl than me though. lol. Glad he was there as it was hard for people to believe it. still, with 480whp, my car kicks some as and I drove it like that without putting a dime into it for 7 years. I had the motor built right.
Now I am having my tranny built right as well. And I'm sticking with my 5 speed. I'm selling my 968 tranny. with the 3.78 ring and pinion, those six speeds will be shifting while I'm accelerating. At my hp levels, the five speed makes more sense and even then, first gear is useless on both trannys. I'm just not going to spend $4,000 on a ring and pinion for my car. So I'm going to harden all the gearsets, and rebuild my 5 speed.
As far as looks, everyone I come in contact with know my car is a porsche. They just don't know what kind or year. I spent a lot of efforst making my car look as bad *** as possible.
I'm also working with a great group of 951 specialists to get an easy 600whp and possibly 650whp in the near future. Poor ZR1's aren't gonna know what hit em...stay tuned

Please, for the love of god post a video of this and the corresponding time slip. I will immediately represent it in the 1/4 mile thread. People need to know what these cars can do!

Hell yeah, that is the type of thinking I'm about. I'm just a po boy anymore making this hoopty run up here. A real car should be able to do it easily. Eventually I'll be there but for now I'll just keep pushing the 2.5L
