Well I guess it's partly about the challenge. Cause dollar wise it
doesn't make much sense to push for 500 hp from the little 4 that thinks it can!

But the 951 is an intriguing beast and probably calls to us because of it's quirks! Mine is already in the 300 hp club and I find it scary fast on the back roads but for some reason I'm drawn to the thought of a 2.5 16v vario cam 951....

I was not trying to bait the topic about the other car, just got tired of typing. Besides the last post was long enough..

But believe it or not, It's the Pontiac Fiero. Now of course a Fiero does not hold the cache' of Porsche by any means, but that's not the only factor. Those who know some history about those cars know it was a very good platform based on it's design. GM just went cheap on the car like many of their products at times..

Fast forward to now using today's technology. Just like our cars.

Buy a 1988 Fiero rolling chassis 1k. Suspension with proper spring rates 1.2K Go with newer intakes for breathing and looks $300. Dress up interior dramatically 1k. Corvette 13' brake setup $800. 18' wheels say what 2.5K at most. Pontiac G6 6 speed with adapter plates 2K

Now what makes them monsters. Guy's are either putting ls6 and 7 engines in them like the 951. But there is a relatively better setup because it keeps the weight down yet can be made into big power.

The 3800sc series II. These engine's are a dime a dozen now $500. There is someone I know that is part of West Coast Fiero's (club) who has his damn car trickle charged. He has a Turbo in addition to the supercharger. Car put down 633 hp to the ground. Car is very fast to say the least. Most others are simply taking the SC off and putting in a T-61 Bullseye turbo in it's place. Then at 14 lbs of boost and headers they punch out 500 to the ground no problem. And they weigh 2750 lbs with this setup. Throw in about a 1k for engine management and call it a day.

I know this because I had one, I just got tired of dealing with CA bs smog laws. Whereas most other Fiero owners with "real fiero's" are going around the laws in different ways.

I am glad I have a Porsche now for various reasons. I look forward to this car being a stud.

And yes I know the MR2 turbo could get a mention but they are too common.

Crazy as this sounds, it's true.

Fiero! You have to admit that it sounds funny! But I don't doubt the numbers. I found it funny because my son in law had an 85 that had Koni's and aftermarket sway bars on it handled like it was on rails but not very bump friendly! This was way back in the day actually I think it was new!

One of the things I admire about the 951 is the way it soaks up bumps, you know they are there but it doesn't throw the car off course!

The smog thing and the motor swap should not have been an issue. As long as the motor was the same year or newer and all smog gear was hooked up it could be legal. You'd have to go to a bar station the first time but after that any smog check place could do it. Now you go throwing non cert parts on it and that's another story!

And I like under dog ie sleepers, my other favorite car is my little Tercel. Modded suspension it corners like it's on rails ,weights 2230 with me in it. Stock motor for now but I have a 4efte (Turbo 1.3 on the stand) 300 hp with the right turbo and apparently you can run 35psi on it! Their are 11' sec Terks out there.

The Terk is a lot of fun but it has none of the sophistication of the 951 in it's suspension. Just cheap e bay coil overs with short 460 inch pound springs, yeah it doesn't lean or dive on the brakes but you won't be cutting diamonds in the back seat..well if it still had a back seat!

I'm sure their are lots of uh.. odd cars on this board. So as you see i'm not picking on you!

NONE of you ever got into Fieros as much as I. I guarantee it. (for drama sake) I'm trying to leave it in the past. It was an addiction.

To answer a few questions, I don't have any timeslips from my trips to the drag strip. I was too upset at blowing my clutch, four times!

David Raines, owner of Powerhaus built my motor himself. It was a spectacular motor for it's time.

There is a lot more reliable power to be had from my motor. And after five years of researching and figuring out what to do, and who to go with, I'm doing it now. I have a few things up my sleeves and a select few who are involved. I should be 650 whp and wtq to match in a few months. Stay tuned...

Oh, and on the vette, I like them. In fact I like them a lot. The thing I don't like is that every time you pull up to one, there's a poor guy going through a mid life crisis driving one. I am NOT that guy. I've partied my *** off, banged some of the baddest chicks on the planet, was the highest paid, most requested male escort in Las Vegas for over 12 years, and at one time, had a girl in every state of the union but Delaware and Hawaii. Now, I'm still banging the baddest chick on the planet (biased of course), Brianna Jordan, own the only high end escort agency in Las Vegas, and film **** shoots with her and other girls. The fact that I put up almost 400lbs on a bench with a 32' waist and 8 1/2 % bodyfat, leaves only one option for me.....NEVER...EVER...drive a vette. Unless I have the means to modify it significantly with over 1,000 hp. A vette no depressed, overcompensating, mid life crisis bastard, would dare to drive. They are fantastic cars, beautiful and powerful, but with the worst stigma attached to it. Sad, really. Cause they are awesome cars.

Now, should I decide to forego my beloved 951, and break into a new car, I would buy a preowned 997 TT, and immediately drop it off and Evolution Motorsports in Tempe. The owner used to work with David at Powerhaus back in the day. Then I'd pick it up when they did their magic on it to produce 1,000+ whp.

And that's only if I don't succeed as much as I hope to in the next few years. Because then, I would drop whatever it takes to get my hands on the new Tuatara offered by Shelby Super Cars. 1,350hp and lighter than our cars at about 2700lbs. Jason Castriotta penned it. Baddest super car out there to date for me. And all American. Check it out.

Supra's and 951's? The only thing they have in common is the boost factor.
