Default CV boot replacement....nasty, dirty, greasy job

If you ever have to do this clean out the area first with a high pressure washer after soaking it in engine degreaser, a rubber mallet to pound in the cheese head tool and lots of rags

that is all, carry on

Or you might keep your hands clean and buy a rebuilt limited lifetime warranty axle from whatever generic autoparts store for less than $120/side and return them when they fail. Regreasing CV's is like complaining you didn't bleed enough when you flailed yourself with a cat-o-nine tails.

nah, I liked the challenge, moreover this post was really about the cleaning of the bolts prior to removal and the use of that rubber mallet

I personally went through a good 30-40 pairs. I started with a new box and by the end of the job there were only handful of gloves left.

And my hands were still covered with grease.

+1, only about five pairs but you're right, that grease just seems to work its way into everything, I did cover my work bench in a paper drop cloth and that helped a lot
