Question Turbo comparisons

I would love to here some comparisons between teh diferent turbos there are out there. I want something with a little less lag than stock but also much better throughout the power band. The SFR website has some great sounding garret BB turbos at good prices. Any other kinds I should take into consideration.

What's a "stage III" turbine, who's stage III? When you say the #6 is good for 450 hp, you're implying the housing, since the turbine wheel is different... But the turbine wheel being different implies machining on the #6 housing too right? So really that's not good for $450 either, not before being modified...

So who offers this turbo for $650?

BB is the way to go for a faster spoolup. If i were to do it over again i would get a gt-25 BB.
I hear this turbo is as good as it gets for our cars. But you have to break the bank because of all the exhaust mods you have to do to bolt it in.
If your looking for a 90% boltup turbo the to4b bb with a #8 hot side. I would leave the trim work up to your tuner. Just tell him your looking for a quick spoolup, big hp or something in between. As far as a #6 hotside I have heared it's only good for quick spooling 320 rwhp on pump gas max. You can sqeeze 30 or 40 more out of a #8 hotside. On race gas you may be able to break 400rwhp with the #8. Assuming your car has all the goodies. The to4b can flow 95% of what the to4e can. And it's an easier bolt on/less hacking.

I bought a stage 2 turbo from SFR. OK I paid much more than 650 dollars but I have full boost at 3,000 rpm and that thing pulls nicely from 2,000 rpm. Would do it again!

I also bought my Stage 2 version from SFR. I am extremely happy with my purchase. It is a T04B w/#8 hotside. I am going to the dyno Sat and should be able to post something then.

AHmet, it's turboentics way of quantifying size.....

so , turboenetics actually refers to it as a "stage III" i'm not trying to sound all ricey

Garret goes by letters.

I can get another unit just like this for $650... Call up some places

what hacking.. all you have to do is grind about 300 thou off a corner of the comp housing.... NO hacking?

Also see this in my post:

I recently had a chance to street race my 87 951 with stock K26 and upgrades seen below, against an 87 with K27 #6 hotside with Steve R chips and shimmed wastegate, which he later said has lost some hold in the last few months at higher rpms. We were both running 15psi.

WOW, I GOT SMOKED!!!!

And I am a fairly compitent driver. The only only other car to beat me that bad in a street race was a modded 3000gt twin turbo, with twin T4's and I started to real him in a little in 3rd.

The K27 pulled on me from a slow rolling start in 2nd all the way into 3rd, then hit some traffic. He pulled all the way and I was never realing him in. I would not dare say the chips were the deciding factor, either.

He follwed me to my house as we found we both lived close here in Orlando. He has done most of the work himself. Was also funny as I had a buddy with me in the car and we were just talking about when running same boost, how newer turbos are so much more effecient. I was telling him about the post of the guy that has turbo's with just more effecient internals running 400hp with 15 psi.

Anyone got a good used K27 for sale???????

I was able to retain my stock temp sensor. saves $60.00. What about the alternator vent duct you had to remove. You also need some crazy looking silicone hose off set to clear the alternator. With most t04e housings you have to grind the intake manifold as well as the housing.Plus the water inlet has to be sharply bent or re welded to go over the compressor housing. The exhaust is a harder fit. I'm sure i missed a few more but what hacking! A to4b works much better for the DIYS and can flow almost just as much with the right compressor wheel. I'm no expert but i have managed to change 4 turbos on a 951 k26 , K27 ,t04e, t04b. I do know the difference.
