i was driving the car home today was in 5th accelerated to beat a yellow light and all of a sudden I heard a weird sound from under the car as if something was scraping and then noticed it wasnt engaging in the gear. I coasted to a stop and the car won't engage the clutch when I release the clutch. The clutch was done like a year ago... Anyone have any idea what it could be? Getting it towed home now

Ring and pinion failed?

Should be pretty easy to find out if it's a transmission or clutch issue by taking a peek at the clutch through the bellhousing and having someone press the clutch pedal. Also might want to try putting the car in gear, press the clutch, and see if you can turn the rear wheels. And check the coupler on the driveshaft that connects to the input shaft on the transmission.

Hope it's something simple and cheap.

Could be the clutch, TT, transmission, or busted CV. Jack the back of the car up, start car, and put in gear. Now look to see what's turning. From there you can easily isolate the problem.

could also be a broken clutch fork. We've seen a couple of those lately, I've broken one, Rogue has broken 2, and I know there are others out there...

Well when the car was getting on the tow truck I could see the problem ... The axle on drivers side is no longer connected to the transmission... I have no idea how that happened or why...

FIFY. Had that happen on my 924. just bolted it back up, and called it good.

If one side came off shouldn't the other wheel still spin ( i have lsd)? What is the worst car scenario in this situation?

Very simple fix... the bolts backed out because they werent in tight enough after the clutch was done. Just needed to be tightened. Dodged a bullet there.

Could be a CV failure, no grease due to a bad boot, or the bolts backed out. Bolts coming out very common on the driver's side next to the transmission. Determine if the bolts back out, or if the CV joint broke. If they cam loose and sheared you might have to pull the axel to remove them. In any event, use Stage 8 fasteners to put it back together or drill the bolt heads and safety wire them together. I've tried everything else and the only think that work consistently in racing conditions was the Stage 8 fasteners or the safety wire.

I took the car to a transmission shop and they said the bolts backed out. There theory was that when the clutch was done someone didnt have the correct tool to tighten them and they ended up stripping the bolts and didnt tighten them enough which over time caused them to back out. The car is fixed now and drives fine. They also said no damage was found. But they did recommend getting new bolts and having them re done although for now they are in there nice and tight.
