The Kool Aid drinkers I suppose. Danno was a very smart guy, tried to help way too many people, but he had the business sense of a goat. I never got scammed but I couldn't even give away his Link AFM/MAP package on my project car. I can't believe the old timers that are still lurking here...says a lot about John D. IMO

I see several posts about champagne dreams and beer budget. The bottom line is these cars are worth about the price of a hot meal at Denny's. When cars get really cheap you start to be vulnerable to a certain type of individual. That does not mean that anyone who buys their first 944 in 2011 won't be a great member but, I think you'll find that most of the old members who do stick around have at least moved on to different Porsche models albeit still keeping a 944 in the stable out of love.

I think you'll find that also the larger and more commercialized a company, product, community, etc become, the more it looses that friendly, neighborly aspect. I mostly lurk these days. I do tend to read threads posted by people I remember from way back when, other than that I don't get on here much. I also don't feel I have much to contribute given the fact that I no longer own a 944. It's good to recognize some of these old names, and posters.

Perhaps we should start a porschelist old foggies thread where we politely exchange stories of the "days of ole" while sipping our cups nostalgia? I do think there is still a great group of guys here and if I ever receive a email, or pm from anyone on this board asking for help I know I'd answer it.

the next few years may not be kind to the 944. many of the kids deserve a little lattitude in keeping these cast off cars going—not an easy task. they surely do not have the access to the kind of funds i had coming out of high school OR college. i earned close to $50/hr at my summer job, (adjusted to '2011 dollars') not to mention having 20~30 hours of overtime offered each week back in the late '80s. i was able to afford an almost-new 944 then. every time i see a young kid driving a 944, i know he's driving a car where the recent owners probably let 'stuff' go—so there's likely quite a bit of 'do it yourself' going on. these kids aren't perfect, but i'm sure at least some of them appreciate the help others offer.

Just remember – back in the 80’s the hairy chest thing was cool!
So since I am into 80’s Porsches it only makes sense to sport the look. Maybe I should add a gold chain or a Pukka shell necklace.

Next thing you’ll be telling me to shave my legs…..

I agree with you guys. A lot has changed, many of us have left the forum due to life and all that is associated. We used to get together locally at least twice a year, that hasn't happened in many many years. I realy do apreciate a lot of the help I have gotten over the years and still feel this forum has many more people willing to lend a hand than any other out there.
