Nope not stock. Looks like maybe some sort of DIY flywheel locking system or alignment hole.

Strange.... the car was completely stock when I bought it and had full documentation, all from reputable Porsche shops.
Guess I'll never know why it was put there?

I wonder... perhaps it is a BDC #1 location hole appears to my untrained eye to be roughly 180 degrees from the TDC#1 trigger pickup?

Next time the bell housing is off, weld it grind it down flush, act like it was never there!

I wouldn’t bother plugging it – most 944s do not have the lower flywheel cover so the whole bell housing is open to the road anyway.

It's possible someone dropped something in there and fished it out through that hole... though I would think the inspection hole would work just as well.
