Just curious. Are the bits stuck in the cv axle bolts on your 951?

This makes up my mind to swap out to stage 8 bolts... stupid cheese head bits...
Sad part is I KNOW the bit is in the garage.. but the garage is tiny, and has a HUGE mess in it... maybe I will start tomorrow off cleaning up and see if it turns up, if not I will tighten them down and drive to get a new bit!

Sorry to hear about your misfortune!
I'm kinda impressed that you guys have Autozones with triple-square sockets...none of mine had them, I had to get the Snap-On sockets.
If for any reason Karl can't lend you his, I'd be happy to overnight mine to you, just send me a PM.

Karl is stopping here in the morning!
WOO HOO she will ride tomorrow!
I started yesterday afternoon like this:
and ended today like this:
Axles are in, and hardware is snugged up, should take me about 30 minutes tomorrow morning, then off to an alignment, and then to run the roads again!
Completed:
Rear wheel bearing replacement
new trans mount
fuel pickup replaced
(everything from here down has been installed since yesterday afternoon)
fuel filter replaced
head gasket replaced
head rebuilt (IMA Motorsport)
Cam tower reseal/rebuilt
full front end reseal
new trans output shaft seals
new sway bar bushings
rebuilt power steering rack
rebuilt power steering lines
new timing belt
new BS belt
replaced lower BS front carrier (previous damage to PS pump mount)
NEW injectors
new tie rod ends
It was torn apart 10 January, and will ride tomorrow!

Not yet... will be trying some time tomorrow morning... it did roll over easily by hand prior to installing the plugs, took it full 720 on the crank to ensure everything still lined up (even the balance shaft timing marks were dead on)
So hopefully tomorrow I can cruise... fingers crossed... last time I started it was the day before you all came down and helped me gut it like a fish... still have a few sanity checks I do after major maintenance before first start to take care of tomorrow (like getting the oil system up to pressure before starting it, double checking the work done,,, things like that)...

I’m a little late…but it would have been easier to just toss the triple squares and put in regular allen heads, you can find them at any decent fastener shop.
I change them over in a lot of cars.

I am thinking 12 point headed bolts... those stage 8 with the locking clips look nice, but seem like another thing to fiddle with (and lose)... and I have not ever had a properly torqued axle bolt back out on me.. in 50K or so of driving time on my cars...

This probably doesn't apply here, but if the car is going to be driven a lot, particularly in the weather, Allen head fasteners can be bad. Prior toy (and Merkur owners aren't anything like Porsche owners in what they'll expose their car to) had them, and they were notorious for stripping. I had to use a stud extractor every time I removed an axle. These cheesehead 3 square things are much better for being able to grip the fastener.

It does make sense to get decent quality bolts with cad plating if possible.
BTW – shouldn’t all the cheesehead bolts be out celebrating the superbowl?
