coming from such a popular figure who is on almost every single night i can actually see that comment causing more depreciation for our cars.
I'm going to write a letter to show.. he is not even technically right, it's not a VW.

the 944/T/S2 were not built at the Porsche factory right ?
that's a problem as you see the confusion it causes.
worse still if my 968 be lumped into that house of horrors.

+1 on Carson, his DVD's are better than what's on now. 140mph for Letterman - puss! You haven't lived till you sway and yaw a bit at 163mph in stock body form. Air dam needed and LeMans or better spoiler.

I enjoyed watching Letterman on TV during the early to mid eighties when he was doing his Long Island high-speed runs, though I'm not much of a fan these days. There's seems to be an underlying viciousness to his nature that is revealing itself as time goes on. Sort of like Rosie O'Donell and a few others who have shown us that the line between comedy and anger is fine indeed.
In this case though, I think he was being facetious in favor of the 951. Although most people in the audience couldn't know it, I think he was telling the 944 nay-sayers; "look, I was doing 140 in this car you call a 4-cylinder piece of junk." Anyway, that's my take.
From what I've read, Letterman has or has had some pretty nice cars, including a Ferrari Lusso that I seem to remember reading about. That he chose the 944 Turbo for his fastest stateside run should speak well for what he really thought about it. After all, it's difficult to drive a 951 that fast and not be totally impressed with it.

Show me Conan's garage, and Carson's when he was alive.

Kinda-sorta. Some parts are stamped with the VW, Audi, and Porsche logos, so presumably they could be shared across all three lines, or at least come from the same manufacturing plants.

Yup, it's a SHO. The best feature of the SHO has always been the engine, they're nice revvy Yamaha units. It's a shame they surrounded the engine with the rest of the car...
