Some connectors deep inside cabin are Mercedes, BMW parts I havent seen yet
Interesting thing about door handles is that vw handles found on porsches fit on older vw, but vw handles will not fit on porsches..

This thread has morphed into the long standing debate of what is Porsche and what isn't etc.
So I ask this:
What makes a brand a brand? Porsche a Porsche? Ford a Ford?
Where it is assembled?
Where it is designed?
Who designed it?
Who the parent company is?
Who made the parts?
Who assembled the parts?
And what if all of the above have a different answer??? LOL Then what is it???

being a 951 & 16v scirocco owner, i feel i have some insight here. although the door handles look like vw's, the guts and inside connections are very different. vw handles ALWAYS fail and crack to the point that i just get used to it every few years. i've never had a porsche handle break in 25 years of ownership. and this may be an analogy for the whole "what's a porsche" and "where was it built?" porsche generally doesn't just put their name on someone else's design and call it their own. they make sure it will work and improve where they need to even if the end product looks identical. so whether it is built in stuttgart or zuffenhausen or neckarsalm doesn't really matter.
oh, and the 951 is a piece of junk if you make $14 mil per year! i love mine but as soon as i'm rich, hello carrera GT! (although i may just keep my 951 and build up a nice 600hp engine!)

I can fully understand getting miffed about the POS comment, I'll never understand why Porsche owners get bent out of shape when the VW / Audi relationship is mentioned. My only thought is it comes from ignorance.
Anytime someone makes a snide comment about my 944 being an expensive VW / Audi I thank them and mention the VW / Audi's I also own.
People need to remember while the 944 was in production, Audi was kicking *** in WRC and SCCA Trans-AM.
944 owners should be proud of the VW / Audi connection.
The 917/30 proudly displayed "+Audi" on the side.
Nice combination, I also have a 1986 Scirocco 16V
