Got my car tinted this weekend, and i thought i'd share some neat stuff my tinter put on the front windshield:

The stuff is called Llumar "Air Blue" 80% tint. It blocks 99% of UV and 43% of heat. It was pretty pricey ($120 installed for the windshield only), but worth it to me. As you can see it has a slight "rainbow" effect from the outside of the car, but from the inside you'd never know. I wear polarized sunglasses and it does put a "rainbow" effect on the sky, nothing obnoxious though...
Here you can see the difference (left = normal, right = inside the car). Some of the blue at the top is because of the blue tinge in the windshield.

Anyways, just thought i'd share...

What sort of tint is it...dye-based, metallic, ceramic?
Also, is it particularly any better than just using one of these?

I imagine it blocks, well, 100% of UV, probably...it's opaque.
Rainbow look is kinda cool, though!

I'm honestly not even sure it's legal in my state, but i will say that i doubt anyone would ever know unless i pointed it out. I've also seen a lot of new cars that come from the factory with this kind of stuff installed (especially new Mercedes).
Is it better than a sunshade? No, but it's also like having half a sunshade up 100% of the time (not just when you're in a parking lot). I'll still use my sunshade in the parking lot

Just to be strictly accurate, nobody knows that it will save your dashboard... it's only an assumption/hope, until someone's had one for ten years with no cracks. -until then, any guarantee that it will save your dash from cracking is only worth the paper it's written on... and I doubt that anyone even has it written anywhere.
As for me, I've got the silver screen cover, and no dash cracks...
I'm not saying that it WON'T stop cracking, just pointing out that NOBODY can say for sure, until they've had it fitted for ten years in a car parked outdoors in FL facing south, for example.

No issues at night. Honestly, i couldn't tell the tint was there if i didn't already know. I'm surprised the pictures show as much difference as they do, because in person it's extremely minimal.

When I had my BMW 335i I had all windows tinted 20% and the windshield tinted 50%, mainly because of the heat here in Atlanta. The windshield wasn't an issue at all when it came to night time driving. I even got pulled over for my tint being too dark on the windows, never mentioned the windshield, but it was on my birthday and the cop let me go.
