Default Clutch Pedal Freeplay

Guys,

Courious to know about the clutch freeplay, now I've found that the freeplay that I feel is approx 5mm. So the norn has service manual described the freeplay should be around 3mm from the pedal, it will be equal to 0.5mm freeplay between the master cyclinder and the pedal push rod.

Also, I've found that when I depress the clutch pedal completely on the floor, the shift is every hard no matter which gear is.

But when I depress the pedal like 1/2" away from the floor, the shift is very smooth.

So is it related to too much pedal freeplay?

Can't see that free play would affect anything, except the ability of the throwout bearing not to dis-engage the clutch plate properly, ie all the way, if you did not have any free play.
The minimum 3mm is to ensure the slave cylinder piston is able to retract all the way.
A slightly bigger clearance IMHO should not affect gear engagement action as you describe.
I assume it's a standard clutch ?
Unfortunately I have no idea why gear engagement should be difficult at full throw.

Might be worth measuring the actuator at the clutch, see attached pdf's.
The first check 'A' is with no clutch pedal action, to check wear.
Second distance 'B' is with clutch engaged to measure travel.
