Default Introducing SeaFoam into a 951 engine?

Pretty sure it should be upstream of the turbo, is this true?

Any suggestions?

I'm looking to eliminate any carbon problems before attempting smog... again.

Thx

It needs to be downstream of the throttle body - otherwise you won't pull enough vacuum to suck it in.. The typical place people do it is at the brake booster port. I would do it on the vacuum port that it in between cylinders 2 and 3 to give you the best chance. Actually, come to think of it, you might introduce some in all of the ports, since there are ports between all three pairs of runners.

Reminds me. I need to do my Mazda again. Direct injection engines have one very big drawback.

Use a couple of pints of Chevron Techron in a tank of gas, drive the $hit out of the car, heat it up, turn the A/C on head to the smog store.

2 bottles of Techron in a quarter tank of gas and open it up and run it. Really great product.

I would do it closer to the intake. In most cars, there is a direct path to the brake booster. In ours......eh, not so much so.

Having said that, I'd do what the other guys said, first. Good fuel additive, and give it the Italian tuneup. The only reason I've done Seafoam is because the car I use it on is direct injection.

The car has had several drives out to Vegas in the past two months, and I doo get my foot into it. and I regularly use gas additive so I don't think there is much carbon. Just ruling out any chance of not passing this time.

Yep.. I do a scoot up my "test track" and back and leave the engine running for the test. Funny thing is, I set FQS to #4 to pull almost 3deg and the NOX in the 15mph shot up -- weird.

Strange, when I pulled the #4 fqs, it helped me out, bigtime. How's your cat? With my 3" exhaust, I bought a universal gigantic cat and that's what ended up getting me through. Took it off right after...;-)

Oh, does your guy let you do test runs before submitting? Might be something to think about before taking the risk of failing twice in the state's system... Gotta love Cali..

Yep, new Magnaflow cat pulled 929/705 (15/25mph) and created awesome numbers except the 929 which is ~240 over.

The old cat (missing the front element and slightly clogged rear element) pulled 1755/1585. Nearly double CA max.

It's funny Orileys ad just arrived.. Techron is $8 and SeaFoam is three for two.

Just be careful with the seafoam, it smokes a lot, thicker the smoke - more particles in it - Turbocharger. I like seafoam on non turbo applications, especially marine applications, which is where is was designed for; most marine engines run much cooler than car engines. good luck, feel for you guys in CA.

Agreed Bret, and my statement should have been DOWNSTREAM of the turbo INLET.

Maybe the turbo hot section could use a good cleaning too..

Would a slight vac leak have an impact on NOX.. I did notice a slight oily sheen around that brake booster line tee.

Install water/methanol injection, enjoy the lower charge temperatures for denser charge air OR use the effective octane increase to run higher boost without knocking...and as a bonus, the more time you run the engine on boost, the more deposits you clean out!

See...you have to make your car faster...FOR THE ENVIRONMENT!

you can suck seafoam up via straw & cup from from the hole where the idle adjustment screw goes.
