I think for any decent sized i/c you will have to do a bit of cutting on the inside of the nose cone. This happened on mine.

I have essentially the exact same intercooler on my S70 T5, just doing a hand comparison; the stock intercooler pipes are burning hot after a spirited run. Now they are ambient, or very close to it, after a spirited run or even slow traffic for an hour.

how I ran it

The stock 951 intercooler is very deep, great for keeping temps down when moving but imo, very susceptible to heat soak when moving at a slow rate. I also believe that with so much heat soak, it takes a decent amount of air flow to cool the intercooler back down. Some thing that is a bit thinner, IMO, is more realistic for daily driving. Like I said, I get very close to ambient temps even after slow traffic.

I don't know; the research I've done suggests that because of the location and good ducting, the cooling ability is one of the best on the market.
No, if anything, the flow area is a bit skimmpy and shows up in higher pressure drops when a modded engine demands more CFM (usually going bigger displacement).
So, especially if you're staying with 2.5L, there's not much you can do to make your stock intercooling better. Oh yeah, there's one thing. Keep it clean of oil inside!

I mean as long as the stock unit flows well I may just install co2 or n2o cooling..

thinking about ordering it and making custom mounts and piping for it, not too big to block the entire radiator, but i think it would still flow better than stock?

anyone have any thoughts on it? i really don't want to modify my front bumper or anything like that if i don't have to. thanks!

You can't tell from your picture. A front mounted intercooler for our cars should be a vertical design for the best efficiency. Like this one:

to big if you mount it SFR style but run both tubes on the left of the car it may be ok ..you would have to cut a hole in rad support for the lower tube ..
