Default How can i tell which brake rotor for big blacks if i cant find a part number

I asked the question in another thread, I think it was the Big Red thread. I have big blacks on my 86" 951 and I need new rotors because there are stress cracks in the cross drill holes on the ones I have. I pulled the wheel off and looked all around the rotor but did not take the rotor off because I dont have time for that now. So does anyone know if the rotors for the big blacks that came on the 993 TT and the 928 GTS are the same?

If you have big blacks on an 86' then you have some sort of adapter for the rotors or an custom hat.

Need pics!

Default Big Black Brake Rotors

I just bought a new set of rotors for my '87 with Big Blacks and adapters. I like the 928 GTS rotors because they are solid. I had to wait a bit and they were more expensive than the ventilated turbo rotors but I have seen too many thick rotors retired due to cracks. The following was quoted to me from Jeff at Sunset about two months ago. Prices change so these are just for guidance.

928 93-95 rotors 178.35 ea special order
964 turbo front rotors 166.81 one each of left/right in stock
993 turbo fronts 193.79 ea, many in stock.

Are you sure you don't have hats bolted on to the drilled rotors? I thought that the 86 had to have hats due to the different offset. Pics of rotors with hat and solid piece and the 86 hat. Note that the 86 hat is flatter the the picture of the 87 rotor with the hat attached.

I have used 965 and 993 rotors for sale, the 965's are 965 351 043 00 & 965 351 043 00.

OEM Porsche rotors. cross drilled, no ridging or scoring, no appreciable wear ie 32mm

If you measure your rotors, I can tell you which ones match.

I need to know:

OD of rotor.
Width of rotor.
Width of the friction area, ie from the outer edge to the inside edge of the friction area.
Dimension from bolt face to friction surface.

well with the rotor still on the car and just eyeing a tape measurer up next to it...the OD of the whole complete rotor looks to be around 12.75" - 13". again just a quick eyeing. Also to comment on your pictures Brian, the rotor and hat are one piece. The hat is not attatched seperately.

The measurements have to be precise. The differences between rotors 928 965 and 993 are not that big.

Problem is, we don't know of the previous owner changed out the spindles to newer one that allow you to slip the disc on. A pic would be best.

Does your rotor look like this? (not the size, just the way it bolts up) 1986 style Behind the hub

Bolts on like this? 1986 style behind the hub

Or. does it slide over the FRONT of the hub like this picture.... NEWER 87 up style?

Check that you didn't get a digit swapped in 605, the number below are 065 for an 87.

86 turbo -951.341.SB500

87 Turbo -951.341.065.06
m030 -951.341.065.08

Awesome.. Rotors will be easier. Just go look up available rotors on Lindsey racing site for 87+ (A few newer years not applicable). There are some good options for you.. It also explains better. ... Check out Pelican and Paragon as well.
