Default Cost of head rebuild/refresh?

Doing some research and was wondering what the average rate for rebuilding/refreshing a head was. Services would be the following:

-Teardown, steam wash, inspect
-Sodablast carbon deposits not removed by steam
-Remove remaining gasket material, polish surfaces
-Check trueness of deck, measure valve guides
-"zyglo" crack check
-valves check on lathe with run-out gauge
-new valve seals installed

I paid $650 for my head refresh. That included new seals/seats.

Not sure about you Alex, but I'm not comfortable having my Vitesse Turbo downstream of a head prone to problems like the 951's head. I'll be going with an N/A head re-done. Just something to consider. My exhaut ports look good with one slightly cracking, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Just something to consider.

No. Wouldn't be concerned with a K26 downstream, but we're talking just a little bit more money for a VS3 Turbo...

My VR5 is getting an N/A head, too.

IIRC I paid $320 for mine at the shop we talked about for everything minus the "zyglo" crack check.

I was quoted $325 so it sounds like a pretty decent price. Haven't looked to closely at the shape of the ceramic liners, I'll have to check them out.

Yeah, I thought it was a good deal, especially considering he is local, so no shipping, and does nice work. I had the shop check the liners and he gave them the OK before doing anything else.

I just got ballparked at $550 for new seats, guides, deck, bead blast, cut bowls. I think it will be a bit lower but not too much.

Dont just go with the cheapest shop, you really need to know the shop does good work. I fully trust the shop I use.
