Wow... Sharp eye! My avatar picture was taken approximately 18 months ago, long before she went up like the Hindenburg. I've managed to avoid starting a thread detailing every fire damaged part I found and the resulting pain and expense of repairing/replacing. I DID luck out and managed to avoid any permanent damage to any of the engine internals and the chassis. So we're on track to actually make it Hershey, PA next year, instead of getting 10 miles away and stranded.

This goes for everyone in the DC area: If you are even CONSIDERING powdercoating; please, PLEASE consider using Extreme Powdercoating in Lorton, VA. Gary Lamb is the owner, and as you can see, does amazing work. Very reasonable prices and he'll work with you if you are on a budget (like us).

Thanks. I just get really into moding.
I think a 951 motor would look killer done right. Looks like the OP is on the right path.
I started with a stock ugly motor in the S4. Had to pull it a few times for turbos and other mods. Just started poweded coating and ended up wtih what you see above.

Well, my wife and I really thought about the color scheme prior to taking things in to powder coat. Once we got there, we realized that it *still* wasn't going to be as easy as we thought. Because the cam tower and intake manifold are some of the first things your eyes are drawn to, we decided that they had to set the tone for the entire engine. In the end, we decided that matte black would be the best color, with the majority of the brackets and mounts done in aluminum. Granted, we haven't assembled the engine yet (block still needs some machining) but I think it will come out really good.
Our powdercoater really gave us some of the best advice when speaking specifically about how each color would come out on the parts we were doing. Naturally, he wanted us to stay away from doing multiple colors and suggested that anything with a metallic to it would come out looking best. So far we agree!

If your better half will let you buy an extra oven, powder coating is something that the home enthusiast can do. It requires the ability to heat an object to around 600*F for a period of time, and LOTS of patience in masking off all of the parts, but looking back there were a number of parts that we could have done ourselves.
