Default Why can't I find an oil filter anymore?

are you guys having trouble finding oil filters for the 944? no one in LA has them. not the generic auto parts places like autozone, pep boys, etc. and there simply aren't any other auto parts or import auto parts stores in LA at all anymore. and even the dealers don't have them but if they did, they want $25-35 each!

what the hell? i also have a vw scirocco, and 2 alfas which are easier to find oil filters for. when did this happen?

and i know i can order them online but i just want 1 or 2 and didn't really want to pay shipping and all that when i should simply be able to buy one locally.

are other areas of the country similar? and if you're in LA and know of a local place to buy from, please let me know. (and performance doesn't sell from here anymore and neither does pelican parts.)

i don't think most of you read my post. i know they can be found online. and at the dealer. but the dealers here in LA don't stock them and i was quoted 2 prices, 1 at $24 and the other at $32 which is friggin ridiculous.

stupid me, i just thought i could change my oil today but can't find a filter.

oh, yeah, and pelican won't from their showroom anymore because .... uh, they're friggin idiots. jeez, this city is so frustrating sometimes.

no one in la has them, i have a real hard time believing that.

uh, why does everyone in the rest of the country think LA has everything? the only thing they seem to have out here are things that 90% of the population needs, whether that's at the grocery store, the auto parts store, the hardware store, etc. and porsche 944 parts are not what 90% of folks need.

like i said the dealer doesn't even stock them!! and seriously, would you pay $32 for a standard oil filter? (this price escalation seems to be a recent thing as i used to get them at the dealer here for around $7 and that was when performance wanted $10.

o'reilly's is the same as kragan. and they don't stock it. special order.

oh, well, need to place an order for a bunch of vw parts so i'll just get some then but so much for my impulse oil change!

they're available because checker has/had them or could get them in hawaii and az and they're not going to stock something that doesn't sell just to accommodate you for your 1 time sale.

as they say, "poor planning on your part doesn't create an emergency for the parts guy" on something that you may very well not purchase from them again.

Had kind of had the same deal last week. Had drained my oil and went to the local Kragen (O'Rielly/Checker), no dice - no fram, no bosch, no nothin'. Autozone only had STP. Napa only had WIX.

Dude, 944 are so yesterday for LA....

Get a 6 pack from Travis and you won't have to worry about it for a while.

The local import autoparts store carries one unit in their inventory, and can get as many as you want from the local warehouse in a day or less.
