quandary .... sell my 951LS1 to buy race car...
Oh....
Don't know where to begin. I thought I'd never want to sell my LS1 951, and I don't. But a friend of mine is selling his POC legal 951 race car with trailer and all the spares for a really good price.
I've run against him on the track and our cars are close to the same speed, but his is POC legal (because of the engine). But his car is a gutted light weight wide body race car. Mine still has plates and can be driven on the street if necessary.
His deal includes the car, trailer, spares, etc... ready to race as-is.
Mine is the most fun car ever, bullet proof, and blisteringly fast on the track, but not race legal within the club I run with (I can run with them, just not for points).
So what do I do......
I'd have to sell mine to buy his... unless I got a divorce when I bought his, which would allow me to keep both, that is until the divorce court split up the assets which would leave me with just one again! :-)
Damn..... This is a tough call.

Tony,
Best of luck with the sale of your 944LS1.
I just recieved my LS3 480HP motor for my 1989 944 Turbo.
I will call you next week, I have some questions regarding the brakes and steering.
Sincerely,
Max

So obviously there is no category for your car to race in, and now you want to do some officiated competition. To think you never wanted to get back into the leaking, brittle, turbo i4 motor. Still, there are more options nowdays for mods at least. Even from a reliability angle. I think you just have to go with your gut instinct. What motor does he have in his and has it been reliable. What scope for mods within the intended class?

That would work until a clever divorce lawyer got the V8 powered car declared a 'nonporsche'...
It is interesting to see that the owner of one of the best V8 944s has been caught up in the V8 vs turbo conundrum....

well I ask you .... will you get to most of these "LEGAL" races ?? as this is the deciding thing ... I have to be away alot so proper sceduled racing is no good for me ..
do you ever drive your car on the street ??do you plan to ?
what is more inportant ?? racing or just going realy fast ..?
as in thermal dynamics more transactions genrally means more loss so tred carfully

Jonathon,
I hope you and your family are all doing well, It is great to see that you are up and about.
Yes, I am moving forward with the project. The interior is about 95% complete with the 6 point cage and the rear seat delete. I will post some pictures in the near future.
I will run a few races from September thru December with the 944 turbo engine and to dial in the suspension, chassis and brakes.
The LS3 engine swap project is targeted for December. I have the new crate motor and I am starting to order the parts Headers, Bell housing, Aluminum Flywheel, Clutch, Oil pan etc.
Sincerely,
Max

Race Car
I'd pass. Which is my opinion. Having said that, I am not one to spend money spontaneously. Now that I've stated my paradigm, justification. The reason I say that is that you are letting something else distract you. If you really want to go do PCA sanctioned racing, then you should plan ahead for it. Think it over. Don't let anything rush you, because you may regret it. If you ultimately decide to part with your project, do it with a plan, rather than a reaction.

Tony, I'd pass on the race car. To give up on a car you know and love - just for the "POC points"? That sounds a little flimsy to me. If you get to run and race with those guys, does it really matter? Are you missing out on some major prize money?
If you really feel that you need more of a racing challenge, get a 944 NA spec racer. It'll probably be at a price that will let you keep your car, and let you race against evenly prepared cars - to see if you're really worthy of the points!
Just my 2 cents.

Hey...
I was having a Cabernet moment. It's a great deal, with great spares, on a fully sorted car, with a very nice enclosed trailer. Literally, turn-key race setup. Hard to beat for the money.
But in the end... I've done enough racing for points over the years and I don't plan to make every race to get a trophy at the end of the year.
Plus... I already run with the fastest run group within the POC.
What's the point....
And, I really love my car. I have so much fun driving it.
Gotta stay away from vino :-)
