Default headlamp fuse keeps blowing

It's the 7.5 amp dipped beam fuse. It lasts for a week or two before blowing again. What could cause that to blow?

Hello. You have a short in the headlight wiring. What you need to do is check the wiring harness tracing it from the lamp down to where it's wire tied by the factory to the headlight bucket frame.

Cut the wire tie and see if there's a bend in the harness. If it bends easily, there are cracked wires inside. There should be 3. Two for current, one for ground. I spliced mine back together with tiny connectors, wrapped it up in electrical tape and it's been good for over a year now.

+1 on Luis**** Use the crimp type connectors and put a dab of silicone on each end to seal it.

Cheers,

IF it blows right away it is normally a grounding short. Check and make sure that is the right amp rating for a headlight. 7.5 sounds kind of small for a headlight. most headlight fuses are 15amp. If you have the wrong amp fuse in there it will also blow after a certain amount of time. Other wize you have an intermitted short.

Plus what they said, I just went through this. I bet you have a short right wher the harness bends when the headlight go up and down.
You will need to strip back the outer covering to get to the individual wires.
When you fix one side, go ahead and do the other.

I found the problem. Where the harness meets together under the headlight, all three wires were stripped back a few mm's and frayed. It looks like somebody cut them at some point. I'm going to solder them later tonight.

Not to argue, but factory spec for the headlight fuses is in fact 7.5 Amp. These aren't the easiest to find, either!

Yep was playing with my lights yesterday, its 7.5amp, fuse numbers 22 and 23 from memory (-:

On a related issue, my headlight motor is weak, which grounds do people think are related to that circuit? My ABS and Crusise ctl are not functioning either, hopefully I can find one bad ground and fix all three
