Default 3.0 turbo choices

Hi guys,

Any of you 3.0 engine folks willing to share what turbo you are using? I'm considering changing from the GTK650 to something quicker spooling like the GT 35R.

I'm getting full boost by 4000 4200 with the GTK650, and was curious as to what you guys were seeing with your turbo's.

Thanks!

George

George, check out this thread that's posted up top. It has a listing of a lot of 3.0L cars, and most people listed what turbo they used. You could always PM them for more information, as they may not frequent RL on a regular basis.

Don't have any actual info for you but I bought a VR5 for mine. Specifically asked for quicker spool.

Im using the full race t3/ t67 turbo. Its a pretty big turbo but has a small enough A/R and its a t3 so I should see some pretty fast spool up with the 3.0

I would recommend a GT3582R with 0,82 a/r T3 turbine for good compromise between quick spool and power. 1 bar on your engine probably around 3200-3400 rpm and still able to support 500+ rwhp.

If you are considering a gt3582 you should look at FP HTA gt35, better spool more power, the 'magic' turbo.

My VR5 makes 1 bar at 3000 rpms, and I have no doubt it will make 500hp+ with your motor. It made 450rwhp on mine with stock intake, TB, I/C, headers, etc. I'll be going back to the dyno in the next month or so (now with wasted spark, big TB, SFR intake, SFR intercooler), and I'll let you know how it does.

I will be seeing how this turbo works on a 2.5 soon enough

I made the decision for the turbo for my car. It's a Precision 62/62 Billet with a Garrett Dual BB center section with a billet compressor wheel with all the goodies. The hot side is .58 and the compressor billet wheel is .62. Here is a cool vid of a 2.0 EVO running this turbo.

My goal is to get full boost by 3k and keep the HP increasing to redline. This should be a great turbo for my car. The folks at Precision feel that I'll begin spool by 2K. I'll post all dyno sheets when everything is tuned.

Enjoy the vid......DynoFlash did my EVO, and these guys are funny.

Best of luck with it -- can't wait to hear how your recent changes all work out (clutch, turbo, etc.).

George, when are you getting your car back? Hopefully by the time I get back in December?

It will bolt right on but a new oil line will be needed since Precision offsets the oil inlet slightly.

This is a good choice for you George.I talked with Garrity about it and I told him this would be a good compromise without having to do a bunch of fab work. The compressor is 5mm smaller then your current compressor so you will get quicker spool and I reccomended to Garrity to have Precision use the stage 5 turbine or even an O trim. These wheels are smaller the the current p-trim wheel on the GTK-650. The only downside is that this turbo will require more boost to make the same power as the GTK. The billet 62mm is an incredible wheel and you could easily make over 600WHP if you throw Special Tool type of boost at it.LOL
