yeah ive rarely seen the fuel lines leak- our 924s had a big bubble in the line though- usually that little jumper is what lights em up. I always replace them whenever i buy a car. $80 at porsche is worth it- i believe rennbay has something for them too.

If its original, call 1800-PORSCHE and give them your VIN number. If its never been replaced the dealer will do it for free.

No it isnt. The pre 85.5 N/as had a different fuel rail setup with the damper and regulator both located at the back of the fuel rail.

After 85.5 the dampner was moved to the front of the fuel rail which included the troublesome damper line. So the early cars dont have this problem.

Safety recalls are done for free on cars usually because of the huge liability and lawsuits that could come if they arent done. If an auto maker makes a car and it has a problem and people start dying in fires due to a manufacturing error, that will cost the company big big bucks in court.

Here is the info on this recall:

Recall Date
APR 02, 1990

Model Affected
PORSCHE 944

Description
THE HOSE MATERIAL USED IN THE SHORT SECTION OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL LINE HOSE, BETWEEN THE FUEL RAIL AND FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR, IS SUBJECT TO HARDENING, AND COULD CAUSE FUEL LEAKS BETWEEN THE HOSE AND THE METAL PIPE FITTINGS.

Consequence
FUEL LEAKS COULD IGNITE ON THE HOT EXHAUST SYSTEM, OR ANY OTHER SOURCE OF IGNITION, RESULTING IN AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE.

Remedy
REPLACE FUEL LINE HOSE WITH HOSES MADE OF IMPROVED MATERIAL.

Potential Units Affected
53427

Notes
PORSCHE CARS N.A. INC.

The previous owner has this recall letter inside the Porsche Manuel. I assume he had the recall done. i will call though just in case. However, Porsche replaces the jumper with a new improved one? if that's the case is their two part numbers for the original and updated one? If not, then do you think there is a recommended milage on a new jumper line before it needs to be replaced again?

Mine showed that it was replaced under the recall, but that still makes the hose 18 - 19 years old and
it was in rough shape.

Yeah, I was doing something or other with the exhaust on my turbo, and just happened to look at the jumper line... out the corner of my eye... and it had a large bubble, it looked damn near ready to pop on me... the 2nd closest dealer had one in stock, and they offered a PCA discount so I got it for $60 something...

Yep there was an old and new part number. Porsche issued that recall in 1990. The only cars affected were cars MY 86 until 88.

1989-91 944's were replaced with a line made of a different material. However this doesnt solve the problem as even the newer material will get old and crack. Since this material is replaced well within a reasonable safety standard, there is no recall on this line for these years.

The old part number was 944.110.413.01 this part number was superseded to 944.110.413.02. The old part number virtually doesnt exist any more today because it was superseded while the 944's were still in production.

Good stuff, just wanted to be sure since Im running a 044 pump I know that there will be more pressure in the fuel system and all it takes is one weak link.
