I would almost be that it will be a hopped up version of the 2.0 FSI corporate motor from Audi/VW.

gonna be a 2.2 Turbo.
Interestingly PW & 911 magazine columnist Keith Seume talked of putting a 2.2T into 911's in the future as the only way Porsche could meet emissions/tax !

Of course it wouldn't be the first time a 4 cylinder resided in the rump of a 9xx series car.

Cayman with the drive train from what you are leaning on is probably more likely.

Given the shape/size of the car's engine bay, wouldn't a flat-4 turbo make the most sense? Something similar to a Subaru engine.

If they don't go with a flat engine, they better change the name. Straightster perhaps? Inlinester?

I bet it will have VW roots for the engine size and most of the parts considering all the shares Porsche has in VW.
