This was my first 944Fest but I intend to go to the next one. About the only thing I didn't like about Nelson Ledges was the dirt access road. It made the cars incredibly dirty, inside and out.

How about considering BeaveRun for next year? Its only about a hour's drive, south-east of Nelson. Its a newer facility, with garage, showers, and paved roads. I'm not sure if people camp there but there is plenty of good space for it so I don't see why they wouldn't allow it.

The local Allegheny Region PCA (ARCPCA) is a great organization, with Ken Jeremiah as president. I'm sure he'd help out and maybe do a joint back-to-back event like this years. If you want me to speak to him about it, let me know. I'll be seeing him this weekend.

Yup, RS Competition, no longer made. I have a set, they are strong and light.

I have a friend looking to sell a set of 6 wheels (three different widths) late offsets in very nice condition. PM me if anyone's interested.

Nelsons is the perfect spot for us IMHO. Plenty of room, lots of tracktime (good value as well), and we can have our own spot way out in the field away from other people.

You can only do that so much. Its really unavoidable. Its not a big deal if you are only tracking your car (still a PITA) but absolutely sucks if you want to keep your car clean for a show or whatever.

These cars weren't made to be left pristine and fussed with until they were free from every speck of dust, they were made to be DRIVEN. Nelson Ledges is an exceptional track for the 944, allowing even the most novice of drivers to comfortably take their car to the limits.

It also provides a great layout for NAs to whoop on 951s!

Lol, my car got destroyed at Nelson's and still managed to walk away with some hardware. The first day I parked under that stupid tree and got sap all over the whole car. And then the dust stuck to the sap. After a full bottle of speed shine and a wash that night, the car was clean again. Saturday the morning of the show, I went to the car to find it covered in ashes from the previous nights festivities. The morning dew, made a nice base for the ashes to stick to. So had to clean the car again....It was all worth it in the end. We had a good time.

Tenacious- I wasn't trying to knock Nelson Ledges. I have clean cars but they are driven and not garage queens. I was mainly just offering up a good new place to try that isn't so dusty.

I agree that Nelson's is a great track, but it's also cool to visit new tracks with a large group of friends that you can trust on track. Maybe every other year go back to Nelsons? Trick will be keeping the costs down.

While i doubt mine was one of the nicest examples there, i did get a trophie for "Best Modified" - which could also mean "Furthest from Stock". Not sure of anyone elses lap times out there, i know i was running consistant 1:20's w/ a few 1:19's as well from watching the video. The session after the video i changed some shifting spots and i believe it was even faster than the vid.

- as far as going back to Nelson im all for it. While Nelson is not the nicest track around it is "right" for the fest. I think any real nice professional tracks will have problems w/ us camping out, making noise, having a bonfire and taking over the entire property with our crap. Cost is also a factor. Skip is a big foot in the door for us at Nelson and im not sure we have this anywhere else. I would however like to drive at a new track though. Just a suggestion- if they ever finish the Bluegrass Motorsports track in N.Kentucky they have shown an interest in letting us stay there and run on their track, but we would have to share with another club like we did w/ PCA this year...

Default Nelson

XSBoost90:

I noticed you mentioned times in the 1:19 - 1:20 range which is good
for street cars. The modified Miata's run similiar times while the 60 hp
FormulaVee's (FV) run low 1:15's to 1:22's depending on the driver &
the track record was held by an Atlantic (FA) at 59 seconds several years
ago. Although it's a fast track, it requires a good suspension and brakes
to run some seriously fast times. I believe a SPO 993 turbo ran under
1:09 there which is moving in a production car during a SCCA regional.
Nice thread and great photo's!

Mark
