Default Cost effective Lightweight track wheels...

Since most in the Racing Forum don't get it when it comes to "cost effective" I'll post this here.

I have recevied a response from Tom Merrifield (President of D-Force Wheels).

He mentioned that he is presently looking into Porsche fitments and expects them to be available by next spring. However, he said to have a set made for us, we would need 60+ wheels fabricated. In other words, 15 sets. So, I inquired into the pricing and setup if I got 15 people to purchase a set of these:

Wheel Details: (LTW5)

Size Weight
17x8.5 16.2 lbs
17x9 16.4 lbs

18x9 (or possible 8.5) 17.8 lbs
18x10 18.8 lbs

(pricing example: Bimmwerworld's price for 17x9 is $259.99)

I have requested a pricing structure as well as details if 18x8.5 sized wheels are available.

How many of you would be interested in a set of lightweight wheels for track use for around $1000? If we get the 15+, I am willing to bet the prices might even be cheaper.

I should learn more shortly. More to come. Stay tuned.

Just received info from the D-Force Wheel prez:

Chad, I am happy to work with you guys on this.

I will communicate with my factory to see where we land with existing tooling (to save costs) and what extra we have to do to make it happen.

I am perfectly willing to absorb most of the tooling fees associated with the project if the market is there for me to earn the business over time.

The big setbacks come when they change the rules and then the old wheel specs are junk! So that is where your judgment comes in.

We always love the idea of new markets and new projects.

I will be in touch soon//

What's the detail of their construction? They look nice. Do they make custom fittings anyway? Say 11's and 12's?

No. These would be stock fitments (as noted above). They are similar in construction to the Enkei's.

Offset information: Since these guys would be making wheels for us, the better solution would be to create late offset as it applies to more than one platform. Early offset guys, stay tuned.

definetly interested, but they are small? are they planning on makeing bigger? like 11,12,12.5?

create them for late offsett, and early offsett just run spacers. a 23mm spacer thats bolted to the hub and in its turn has new studs is plenty strong, even for trackuse. I've run 31-34mm spacers on both my 944T and on 997TT on track for years.

I would definitely buy a set if they were available soon, in 18" size most likely. I need correct (late) offset wheels in a bad way.

8.5 x 18 and 10.0 x 18 for $1,000 sounds like a good price to me! What would the weights be again?

Are they cast or forged? Any idea on strength? If good answers to the foregoing I'd be in for the "early" offest in 17's or 18's 8.5 or 9's plus the rear's in 10's. I'll wait till the rest of the early's come in...

You'll never get forged wheels for $1000. these are similar in construction to the Enkei's on Tire Rack's website.

Thought so too. Was a bit of a retorical question. They look forged. I've been looking for "track" wheels, but I think maybe I'll stick with my Fikse's for the track and perhaps grab these for the "street" tires. A pretty good price for nice looking street wheels. Can't wait to be able to run Hoosies again. I miss trailering...

These are heat treated cast rims which they're calling semi-forged. Gravity cast, spun while being pressed and heated. But I have questions - where are they manufactured? Will Porsche center caps fit? Are these bolt or hub centric? My guess - China, no and bolt centric (but can be hub centric with spigots).

I may be interested in a set of 17", in Anthracite with polished lip.
