Default From NA to...

I am interested in selling the NA and finding a 951, and I don't want another project car. How much can I expect to pay for a fair condition 951? (I do not want something like Josh B's supreme example of superior tlc. I mean, I do, but my wallet won't let me do it to myself.)

stick around here and wait, you can get some really great deals on cars/parts here

check Craiglist - some finds on there are really awesome too

if you know your local PCA Chapter's website - might want to check on there too, sometimes people sell their cars on there for good deals

pricewise probably $5-7k+

5-7K MIGHT yield a decent example, it is a matter of waiting for the right car, in the condition you are willing to tolerate... I got my 951 for $3200, approximately 4 months and 5-6K later it should be ready to go this weekend, a significant amount of that money was nice to haves not need to haves, but I feel the end product I have is better than any of the 5-7K cars I have seen... But they can be had, it is just a matter of how long you want to wait... You get what you pay for... make sure to get a PPI, 1-200 down the tubes for a non-buy is better than 7K on a non-driver...

I would say 5-7k is about right, but the car will have a horrible interior, need paint, leaks oil, and probably need a lot of attention. You can every once in a while find a nice car in that price range, they few and far between.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say a little more - like $8-10k. That would be for a nice example that you can drive and drive and do very little maintenance to.

Me too!

I have seen Decent (read OK) examples go for as little as 6K, I relayed a range of 5-7 depending on quickness and seller urgency... 10K can bring a nice car almost any day of the week.... 15K gets a solid work of owner art...

My only interior issue is my clock, it doesn't work...Go Figure... even the sunroof was adjusted correctly!

If I recall, your car was in perfect driving condition when you bought it!

I think, for my price range, you should expect to get a car that does *not* need the following:
-Clutch
-Timing belts
-Water pump
-Shocks
-Struts
-Ball joints
-Wheel bearings
-Transmission rebuild
-Tune-up components
-Any major electrical repairs (it's OK if a light bulb is out - but not if the electric window doesn't work)
-Any major interior defects (minor seat wear OK)

To everyone: Raise your hand if you bought a $3-5k car and then proceeded to put another $5k into it...

Hand is up, but for:
-Timing belts
-Water pump
-Shocks
-Struts
-Ball joints
-Wheel bearings

and a few other goodies, I have been going for want to have as opposed to need to have status...Elephant racing monoball bushings and such...TB and WP were in good shape, but I replaced them to be sure they were good...

OH, and don't forget the absolute need to fill the PS reservoir and oil while checking the gas...

What if I bought a 10k dollar car and put 7k in it in two years

Yet my last 951 I bought for 1k (YEP 1k smackers) and all it ever needed in its two years was a cork gasket on the back of the valve cover and a cv joint. it had 200k miles, and was running 19 pounds of boost. That car wast the BEST
