What a weekend (new 951 content!)
Decided to drive 1300 miles round trip to Kansas this weekend...was only supposed to be a day and a half trip but turned into 2.5 days.
Started out sunny and a nice 60* in Indiana friday afternoon. Drove a few hours and stopped between St. Louis and Kansas City for the night. Woke up the next morning to cold and rain. Decided to stop in McDonalds for breakfast and noticed the weather forcast...2-6" of snow and freezing rain/sleet! That was a nice surprise.
First we hit the sleet and freezing rain.
Then the snow started to fall.
Then it got worse.
Made it to our destination and then not 10 miles down the road we hit bad luck...luckily everyone was ok, car was ok just needed to be pulled out and then it drove fine.
We decided to get a hotel for the night and finish the drive home the following day.
Luckily today (sunday) was great weather and the roads were all clear. A little aftermath of the portions that got entirely ice.
Anyways, all this wasn't just for the hell of it, there was a good reason and well worth the trip.
Excuse the dirty pics...I'll be washing it tomorrow and getting some good pictures up.
Specs:
1987 Porsche 944 Turbo
-159k miles
-Runs/drives perfect
-Mods: 18" Cup 2 replicas (225/265 rubber), B&B SS catback w/testpipe, LR stage 2 intercooler, KISS oil cooler, LBE.
-Options: LSD tranny w/cooler, central locking, cruise control, leather non-sport seats

So the Monti Carlo (Lumina) got stuck, but the 951 made it no problem? Interesting...
Good job BTW, looks to be the makings of a nice car...

Yes the 951 is. Monte Carlo isn't.

Junction City. Guy who owned it moved from North Carolina (army) and has only been there since last fall I believe. Car was originally a CA car, but I don't know the history between that.

Does the car have red/blue vaccum lines under the hood? I'm trying to figure out if this is a 951 I looked at.
But man...18" cup II's!!! I still need to pay to have mine shipped to me!
Should have gave a heads up youd be out this way! Us KCWS members could have showed you a good time despite the weather!
Whats funny, is I just realized you are from IN and came to KS to haul a '87 951 home. I did the same thing last may. Except I hauled my '87 951 from IN to KS. Looks like were even now though! Lol

Glad to see you made it safely.
I've driven my 951 in some pretty stimulating snow/ice situations, with summer tires. Never have I slid off or been stuck.
It's a testament to the fact that the car feels scary at all times in the snow and you never get a chance to feel over confident, you always know you're about to slip into the ditch so you're always extremely careful
I think with a good set of snow tires, a 944 should be a great winter car given the weight distribution.
The Audi though, it amazes me.

What a trip. After hearing all these stories it seems more and more common(I suppose its the season). Driving my car back from NC I was involved in a heavy snow storm. The last 25 miles or so were the wost till I made it to the hotel. People were spinning out all around and I was paroniod some idiot was going to plow right into me.
Almost as bad as when it was rain and people were doing the same thing. Needless to say it was a hair raising expiernece. I'm glad you made it home okay and the car looks wonderful. I LOVE 18's cup 2's! They look fantastic.
Post up some more pictures when you get, the chance we are all dying to see it.

Got a chance to wash it...still haven't waxed it though since the sun is so bright. Anyways, here's some pics, I still plan on taking some better ones in less sunlight/glare and after I wax it.
Only two very, very small hairline cracks in the dash:
