Download an LS2 tune (GTO or Vette) from the HP repository and checkout all of the extra parameters compared to the LS1 PCM. You'll see for yourself how much more advanced it is. Check out the spark table (200 RPM intervals) and the low and high Freq MAF tables etc. The old way of thinking is that the GenIII is better, but they've got the GenIV figured out now.
I went cable throttle so had to use the LS1 PCM, but after tuning with the newer ECU, I will not hesitate upgrading to it for my LS7 install.

the crank wheel is actually in the engine too ...... pretty interesting concept. The sensor is mounted through the block.
Very clean form the outside.
Man this is a good idea really, especially for me, b/c when all is said and done I will probably have an LS engine in one of these with a turbo.

I like the sounds of the ls3 heads, I'm currently assembling a l92 headed 427 kit in 6.0 block, It's getting a thumper turbo and going into a fox mustang chassis after it leaves my hands

I've had a similar idea before. I was going to use an OBDII Ford Escort ECU for my 931...since I already had everything and an SCT Pro Racer Tuning Package...only bad things was it was flash only, not live.

I was planning on doing the same thing, but with a ford computer and the tweecer rt setup. I had the tweecer set up on my old mustang, and got real familular with all the different variables that can be configured.
You could set it up for 2-12 cylinders, any firing order, displacement, sequential or batch fire injection, ignition style, boost control, knock control. also it had injector timing controls so you can fine tune your injectors to match any cam profile.
The computers are dirt cheap, used harnesses are dirt cheap as is the tweecer rt, and it even data logs to boot.
I might look into the ls computers also Tony.

I think either would work fine. My guess is the finer resolution of the LS2 PCM is probably more for cleaning up what comes out of the tail pipe (just a guess...). My cammed LS1 has the drivability of a stock car with not even so much as a teeny teeny drivability issue.
I just think it's a great engine management system. And my guess is that it could be used with very little work. The work that there is would really constitute a crank and cam trigger. Both of which not difficult.

I'm from the 928 forum. Could the GM LS1 computer (PCM) also be a solution for the 928 (maybe from s4 to later models) ?

Lastly, the IAC. I don't know what signal the GM IAC gets (compared to that of the Porsche IAC), but I'm sure a compatible IAC could be found either way.
You would need individual coil packs which is not a deal because you could simply use the coil packs off of the LSx engine.
Then there's the wiring harness. Easy especially since you'd start off with the PCM plugs and wiring harness and "prune it" and extend it from there.
In short, it would be no different than any other sequentially fired stand-alone system. But it would be FAR better than most, equal the best, and damn near free.
