Default Options for repainting brakes

I'm working to repaint my brakes. I've gone back and forth between paint and powder coat. The only problem is I don't want to rebuild them right now.

Is it a good idea to have the calipers sand blasted and powder coated since I'm not rebuilding them. Is sand blasting a good idea either way?

I just want to get this thing so I can finally drive it.

Thanks

go to http://www.por15.com/CALIPER-PAINTIN...oductinfo/CKB/ and check out their brake caliper paint. Pretty tough stuff.

Try Aircraft grade paints, they tend to hold up to heat better than regular automotive paints

Should I worry about sand blasting damaging the pistons?

I'm going red.

I used VHT caliper paint, results were good. 2 track days and prob 1500 miles on them, still look new. Just going to wait and see how they hold up. Im a powdercoat ***** so Ill prob go that way if they start to look crappy.

I think this was about 5-6 color coats with 2 coats of clear:

I used the G2 caliper paint system, which has held up well for almost 3 years. It's much better than the VHT paint I used to touch up a nick from a brake pad swap. It was about $30 mailorder.

+1 with Sam...used VHT caliper spray paint with great results. Once cleaned up they look as good as the day I did them almost 2 years ago.

Don't laugh but I have used Rustoleum canned enamel and a soft brush on 4 sets of calipers so far. All I do is wire brush them and make sure there is no grease and paint them right on the car. I have yet to see any heat or paint damage even on hot runs in the Sierra's. I think high priced caliper paints are fine but why if the el cheapo works and looks just as good. The pic below is after 2 years on the road.

I used Ford Red engine paint the first time. Its starting to peel from getting brake fluid on them. I may go that route again and powder coat them later when they need rebuilding.

My bad on the VHT comment above -- it was duplicolor that I used for a touchup. The G2 was definitely a much better product.

where do you get the porsche decal for the big brake?

also, would it be a good time to powdercoat them since they need a rebuild?

I used red VHT paint from Pepboys. I sanded and painted the calipers insitu.
Used the whole can of paint along with a can of VHT clear laquer.
Other than a few scratches and nicks, still looks great after 3 years.

I used the red Duplicolor brush on paint and got excellent results. That was two years ago and it's still looks great even after many many heat cycles and a few drives on salty winter roads.

I did add some thinner and used a better softer brush which left hardly any brush marks...there's a few on the back where I got lazy. The brush that comes with the kit is way too coarse.
