I built a stand a few years ago. The camera usually has a place on the bottom to bolt to a tripod. I used that to bolt it to my stand and a few small bungee cords. I know its not perfect, but it may give you ideas. My next one won't sit so far forward.

Keep in mind, you have to record on a tape or a disc. Otherwise, the bouncing around will mess up the hard drive and it will constantly stop recording. -Ask me why I know. (rhetorical)

I put mine on the roll bar, center view.

If you don't have one, you could purchase a used harness bar and use it.

Yup, I tried it with an Everio GZ-HD7 with internal hard drive and it would stop recording everytime. It just shakes too much.

I use a mini DV tape recorder. Put a band-aid on the Mic input to cut wind noise and it is good to go. Remotes really comes in handy for starting the camera as you go out on the track.
