CCW wheel refurb
cross post as I know not everyone goes into the race forum
Well it was cold outside and although there were more important jobs to be done my new to me wheels arrived looking a little sorry for themselves. So here are some before and after shots of 6 hours of work. Pretty pleased with the results
cleaning the brake dust from the vertical edges was the worst part and using a flex shaft with a rigon of fine grit sandpaper worked the best.
Just need to protect the finish now. I was thinking about wheel wax. should I apply some clear coat first or will the wax on its own suffice?

Nice work getting them back from there. Plenty of elbow grease needed I'm sure. It's cool to resuscitate things and bring them back to life.

This is why i paint all of my wheels dark colors.. no need to worry about ever cleaning them .
I love the CCW's though. I am currently debating a set of those in 17''s or trying my hand at finding a set of ForgeLines RS Comp's for track use. Those they look so good im sure ill probably end up leaving them on for the street all the time.

Any idea what these weigh as a point of reference?

I know that ALL 4 including Hoosier tiers weighed 180lbs. The website says a 18*12 weighs 21.6lbs. These are 18" by 8.5" f and 10" r so would guess that the f is circa 19lbs and rear circa 20. I bought them because most of the racers use CCW as they are a great balance between price weight and strength. I also like their looks (at least when I have polished them )

Wheel Wax works, but if you use a wheel cleaner or degreaser on your wheels, it strips it off. You'll have to constantly reapply. Have you thought of anodizing them clear, or at least just the centers if you like the polished lips?

ive got my Speedlines all apart refinishing them now. Bolts out etc... I sanded and polished the lips on a buffing wheel and i'll be clearcoating them before reassembly as well as some repaint on the centers and something w/ the bolts havent decided yet.

at the end of the day these are track wheels so dont nee to be perfect but I still want them to look ok. I want to protect them from build of of brake dust so any advice appreciated.
all I have so far is the suggestion of wheel wax but sounds like I will need to reapply often
any other suggestions?

I dread the day I have to refurbish the centers on mine. The black anodizing is starting to take on a bluish black look. At least the spun rims are holding their own. I'll wait until I need tires and take the wheels apart and get the centers powdercoated.

xsboost, what do the bolts look like on your Speedlines? Mine are pretty different looking as if they need a special tool. I've yet to find that tool but really want to rebuild them.

I use Eagle One Chrome & Wire Wheel Cleaner to clean up the pitting on the rim halves of my CCW's from the brake dust. They say to not use it with aluminum, so I scrub and rinse it off quickly. It is potent, so be careful. You will be amazed at the time is saves.
