As the title suggests, my battery decided it had lived a good life and decided to snuff itself out as I was driving a date back to my place last night. So funny story and embarrassing moment aside, I'm in need of a new battery. Any battery out there better for our car than most? Battery's are like any other thing on my car, I'd rather spend a little more money for a superior product than just chip in the minimum for minimal results and performance. All suggestions and opinions are greatly appreciated!

As I tell most of the local guys, if you really want my recommendation....don't look at what I put in my car, take a look at what I use in the vehicle my wife and kids get in every day.

AC Delco ACD41-60 685CCA - I have this and have had not issues with it.
I have also had Interstate Mega-tron Plus 700 CCA, but it was a bit pricier than the Delco.

Pick whatever color case you like - almost every battery out there will be made by Delphi, Exide or Johnson Controls. ACDelco is made by Delphi, Interstate is made by Johnson Controls. Johnson Controls makes Optima batteries too. Johnson Controls is the largest battery manufacturer out there.
I personally like Interstate batteries.

I went cheap on mine (http://www.autozone.com/R,2155738/ve...ductDetail.htm), but my car lives in the garage and is not my DD. If the situation were different, I would be looking at one of the brands mentioned above.

Yeah that battery's the one that just bit the dust after about 2 1/2 years of service. conveniently after the free replacement time period. That's why I'm looking to upgrade a little bit because for just a little bit more you can have a battery that will hopefully last a little longer.

If you want to go lightweight, i have a Odyssey PC680 in my 951. Saved about 25lbs off the regular sized battery. I daily drove my 951 also, so it saw plenty of cranking in 10*F weather with 15w50 oil no less..never had problems. You can get them for about $100 shipped.
On a side note, i had to buy a new battery for my MB E320. The particular one i got is made by Bosch, at a cost of $211!!! It does however have something like 1150 cranking amps and 850 cold cranking amps (thats more than some batteries have regular cranking amps). The thing easily weighs about 45-50lbs and was a nightmare to get it into the battery tray. Luckily my father has a shop account so i got the battery for cost ($100).

I have a one month old DynaCell that i cant use now cause it wont fit... We use them as factory replacement for the junk Porsche uses for the new cars... If your ever down here you can have it for $50, not sure you can ship a full battery though...

Phoenix heat is obviously a different environment than VA but it is pretty good at killing most batteries in about two years. Interstate batteries have lasted the longest for me.

Yeah we have anywhere from 105* heat index temps in the summer to 0-10 temps in the winter. Last week it was 11* here for about 3 days which was pretty miserable with the wind blowing. Then again... blacksburg's on top of a mountain so 80% of the time the wind is blowing making it even colder.

I normally buy ac delco batteries but right now i have a bosch battery and i'm pretty satisfied with it. I've had interstate batteries in other cars and they tend to leak acid which is why i dont suggest them. Stick with a delco or bosch and you should be fine.

Heat is actually harder on batteries than the cold is believe it or not. And I have never seen an Interstate leak in my 13 years of wrenching, interesting to hear you have had that issue! Was it a long time ago??
