I have always wondered – which is faster – Godspeed or Heathenspeed?
In that same way of thinking – is it faster to get to Heaven or Hell?…..might make for a hard decision if I die while driving a Porsche!

well, there's too many positives to mention but here's a few,
1. you had a dream and of driving a very fast 944.
2. you came up with plan that involved the 'big effort,' but it had the 'big gain' part at the end.
3. you sought the help of many experts including an esteemed engine builder.
4. you kicked *** and stuck with it.
in the late '80s i worked at a big bakery during the summer breaks from college... and got to reading hotrod magazine, road and track, etc brought in by coworkers during my lunch breaks... one thing i seemed to be reading in hotrod over and over was; 'there's just no substitute for cubic inches...' 'stuff the biggest engine into the smallest car,' ect, and it stuck.
in the summer of '88, i got a copy of a r&t special edition called World's Fastest Cars. with it, came it came much more of a realization of what a bunch of ****boxes all those musclecars were... i probably read that magazine cover to cover a few times ! it had the 959, F-40, and the 944 Turbo S also made the list! but overall, it was like a whole new age of cars had arrived.
in 1990, a 944S with very low miles entered into my life purely by accident... (i had a racing shop just down the lane from my house) and shortly after getting the car, it was suggested to me (during a cookout), that a chevy small block could be stuffed in there.. one of those 'oh God' moments.
but it wouldn't be for a couple of more years, (maybe 1992?) that i found this small ad for renegade in the back of an issue of stock car racing, and the thought of stuffing a 390 hp sbc into a 944 took hold... a couple of years later, i saw a 968 parked on the campus of UT and the car looked really awesome. the dream of having the big torque monster in a 968 was born... then came the LS engines.... unfortunately, other projects caused my swap to be delayed about 12 more years.

It's actually a very funny story! Apparently they were unable to finish the alignment before closing time, and the tech started to clean up and go home. Apparently the group you see started looking at the car and pressured him to finish!
