But the other question; are the stock fuel lines large enough?
THAT, I do not know. They are large enough for stock HP, there is no doubt about that. The other car I am building for large HP and e85 has -10 AN. That is probably overkill, but I would hate to have plumbing be a roadblock.

Very true! I'll start calculating the amount of fuel used and what the max for the standard 10mm lines is! Because switching over to other lines is the least of my concern, but having to do it later because the supply is too little is a concern..

I think the stock lines will hold up to most any hp level on these cars. I've made over 500 (track rwhp) with no signs of leaning out. The next engine will certainly test the limits.

Nice project!!

I've just done some calculating; 500 crank HP with e85 will require about 1500cc injectors

1500cc/minute for each injector so 6 dm3 per minute (or 6 liter or 1.585 US gallons)

I've done some calculating in the past; a 8mm fuel line (inner diameter) is good for 300 liters a minute which would mean that it's possible to get lean. But i can't remember the pressure!!

Does anyone have a datasheet for fuel line flow rates? That would help me out a lot with the calculations!

Found some number on flowrates so here:

8mm line at 300 liters/hour on 5meter line has a pressure drop of 0.19bar

But as the flow is 360 liters/hour the pressure drop will be 0.3 bar, still nog a big deal. But than; the line is 10mm so we're back at about 0.18 bar pressure drop. In other words; the standard fuel lines are big enough, even if you get up to the 800hp!

Good to know. I May have over done it a bit then. You are basing the HP to fuel ratio on e85 numbers?

Yes ofcourse. I'm using a B.S.F.C. of 0.91 for the E85. Maybe it's a little less but i prefer to have too much than too little!

I don´t think 1500 cc i neccesary, 1200 cc would do fine.

741 hk @ 100% givs 590 hk @ 80% duty cycle.

Don´t forget that the fuel presure rises with the boos presure. But even at 3 bar fuel presure 1200 cc will be enough for 480 hk.

Injector Dynamics has a nice new 1300 injector.

I agree, 1200 should do it. This is a 1600 option:

Not sure what we'll be running. Going to leave that to the engineer. Those Bosch 2200's sound like the ticket.

Patrick?..

Erol, thanks for the info! The calculation i made were very rough, just to make sure that i don't buy a injector which is too small..

But i've been looking into the ev14's and the 1000cc is good for e85 but to small.. The next size which is able to hold the e85 is the 2000.. so that's what i'll be doing!

On my 3.1l 16v engine I was at 100% DC on 1200 cc injectors @ 3.5 bar already at 6000 rpm @ 1.2 bar.
The raised FP equals ~1296 cc. Also remember that higher rpms reduces the time window available to inject fuel.

The above figures was in batch injection mode though so using full sequential lowers the DC as the injector deadtime happens twice at batch for every full 720 deg cycle.

Now I'm using Bosch 2200 cc high impendance injectors. They work great.

So the 2000cc's should be perfect for me as well! They'll be high impedance injectors as well on an AEM EMS-4!

Shawn:

I have the Five-O's on the FL car. Highly recommended by Bob Boyer @ Random EMS. Nice pieces and good customer service. They have many varieties for our cars, but not listed on website. Need to call and talk to them, but I forgot the contact name. You do have to purchase a separate connector dongle. Price is reasonable though.
