Default Some ?'s about 3.0 turbo conversion

Well we got my 2.5 apart. The cylinder walls are scored pretty badly. Looks like the block isnt fit for rebuild. I figured if I need a new block, maybe I should start pricing 3.0 stuff. Ive found a few 2.7 heads around, some nice prices too. One question that comes to mind is, do the exhaust valves on the 2.7 need to be high temp valves? If so, where do I source 2.7 high temp valves from? The other question is in regards to the rods, and pistons. As I understand it Ill need custom rods and pistons. Where does one source these rods and pistons? I guess the rods to use would be pauter? The pistons j&e? Would these need to be custom coated? IS anyone currently making these ready in stock? Would be great to find a good used set.

TIA guys.

Yeah Im well aware of that. Well I found a 2.7 head for $375. Its also looking like I can get a 968 block and crank for about $1500. Which leaves me with the valves(if needed), and the rods and pistons. GEttin it done around 3k for parts would be nice.

From what I've seen on here doing it on a tight budget and for 3k$ is damn near impossible. If you can pull it off keep us updated step by step and part by part cuz I'd be willing to do the same if it can be done!

Well I know I can get the block/crank/head for 1875, plus 25 for shipping on the head. So 19, couldnt be more than about 2k for valves, rods, pistons, could it? Certainly not if I can find them used. 3k may be a bit optimistic, but im thinkin somewhere between 3-4k for the extra parts.

I have been in this process for 6 months and when I have finished it will have cost me north of $18k in parts. You may manage to do it for less, but this is not the sort of project you do "cheaply" and pretty much everything under my hood will be new ...

If you believe you can have it done with a mere $3k in parts, may I ask you what you smoke and if you don't mind sharing some ?

Yeah bro honestly....It will add up to more than 3k. That is if you want it done right. Do you plan on rebuilding the 3.0 block? IE new bearings, waterpump, gaskets?

For exhaust valves use the 951 valves. For rods, you can get by using the 951 rods as well. For pistons, there are a few options for the Alusil block and lots of options if you sleeve the block. If you are on a tight budget, keep it simple (Alusil block, 951 ex. valves, 951 valve springs, 951 rods,..).
Gathering parts is not the expensive part. Putting the engine together so it lives is a rea to investigate. Work with someone reliable who has done it "successfully" before is key to any engine project (Chris White is a good builder to discuss your project with)..

Do your homework, spend the $ where it's needed, spend a bit now or a lot more later.

You should have purchased my engine but I think it is sold. This would have saved you alot of grief and the engine was put together in a way that it would live.

For $3K? Maybe youll acquire all the parts..... then the money really starts to add up.

As for the exhaust valves, they are like that to deal with the heat better but I have seen v-8 turbo engine without sodium valves but I know Porsche did it for a reason. I think even the 968 turbo had the 2.7 head with turbo exhuast valves.

Good luck and keep us posted.

With the rebuild it will be more. I mean how much could rods, pistons, and valves be? More than 2k? The rebuild work is going to be more, I know. Im considering extra parts on the rebuild at this point. So far Im at a grand total of 1900 for parts. Just need to source, rods, pistons, and valves now. Im trying to remember now is if the 2.7 head needs custom exhaust work.
