Wrench buddy near Danbury, CT? (Clutch), need garage, perhaps sell 951
Anyone out there that would like to help a fellow lister do a clutch change? (I can just see people hitting the back button right now, haha).
I'll try to make it worth your while. I've done everything on my car thus far, water pump, belts, half-shafts, etc... however, after moving to China to work for a year and coming back, I've no garage to do it in. I keep thinking of what I could do with the $3k that a shop will charge for the clutch job alone (i.e. clutch + turbo) and really don't want to pay a shop for the job. Although I think it's a long shot, I'm looking for someone with the space to host my car in a garage for awhile during its rehab, obviously not for free either. I would be equally interested to help that same person with wrenching on their car.
I believe the clutch has done quite a good job for the past 22 years and 149k miles on my 86 Turbo. I'm amazed it's lasted this long and over the past 8 years of ownership, it has never let me down.
Any takers?
Nick

Dan,
Thanks for offering to help out.
It's hard to say how long the clutch job will take, it quotes about 24 hours for a Porsche mechanic on Clarks-Garage.com. It really would depend a bit on luck for the whole process to go smoothly. In my experience, things happen when working on this car!
have you any experience with the clutch job on the 944?

Hey Nick
Perhaps it is appropriate to become a paying, contributing member before soliciting members to open their garage/shop.
It is only $18 a year and may put you in a better light for other members considering assisting you.
Also a bit of advice - put yourself in the other guys shoes
For somebody to be willing to open there garage/shop to you, you need to commit to a specific time frame - NO MATTER how the job goes. Nobody wants somebody else's car tying up their shop while you figure out what/how to do the job. The responsibility is on you...... if **** goes sideways, you need to make arrangements to have car removed/towed out by the agreed date. This is your deal not the person doing you a favor...... otherwise pony up the $$ and have it done professionally.
Best of luck.

Nick, I may be able to help you out.
I'm about 2 hours from you, near Poughkeepsie, NY. A clutch is something that we should be able to easily do in a day (I've done several, have a lift, etc.)

2bridges,
I've been a paying member before, and it lapsed during my time out of the country. This site is well worth the $18/yr. and I just submitted my renewal. Good suggestions too.
Van,
I'll shoot you a PM.

Would be a great thing indeed if we three can all meet at the same time and do some wrenching.
2bridges,
Where are you at in the midwest? I used to be a Lincoln Trail PCA member there.

2bridges,
Actually in Illinois just south of Chicago is where the Lincoln Trail region is near.
Ian,
Thanks a lot for the offer, I think Van and maybe Dan will be helping me out this time around. I am in Danbury often so if you ever need someone to help wrench a bit, don't hesitate to ask me.
BTW, how long will it take my "Rennlist Member" to show up? I paid using paypal...
