Default I love my new soild trans mount

lots of people here say the trans mount makes tons of noise and is basically unacceptable for a street car. I recently installed one anyway on my track/street car and I love it. It does make some noise but its barely noticeable at lower RPM and gradually begins to make a slight whine at higher RPM. I think it sounds pretty cool. perhaps it might get old if you commute long distances everyday but it is worth a try for those who want to get rid of the drive line slop that makes selecting gears difficult in high speed corners. This mod may not be for everyone but don't immediately dismiss this purchase if you notice trans movement

I installed my solid transmission mount last week. Very happy with results, better shifting, rear end feels more in control and solid.

That's good to know as I'd experienced just that symptom of not being able to select some gears occasionally last week at the track during cornering.

I went with a new mount filled with polyurethane. Trans has very little side to side movement to it, even without the axles installed. Maybe an 3/4 of an inch if i really push hard on it. Much less than stock. Havent driven with it yet, but its fairly common in other makes. My friend with an MR2 Turbo did this and it worked very well.

Is it possible to use old style N/A side mounts with 951 gearbox ? At least gearbox have attachement points for them.

Maybe but you might have to use the early cross member not sure though since I never seen it.

I am getting myself a solid mount soon, most likely making my own along with the engine mounts I am making too

soo guys, I lost my tranny bar, the long one with 2 bolts, 1 at each end, tranny in the middle, been running solid mount last 5-6 trackdays, lost it at spa-franochamps in piff-paff turn.. that was interesting, tore a boosthose as well.

I had checked my bolts on tranny, they hadent come loose... apparantly the other bolts does. use locktite!

You mean the 2 bolts came loose and the transmission was hanging on the transaxle only!???

the one on the right was half way on, the one on left came loose and hit the car behind me. so tranny was hanging on 1 bolt on right, and resting on the suspension bar under it.

it was luckily on our way "back" to start, we were driving high speed sections, this was drving in reverse, so perhaps was only pushing it 80% or so, so no drama there.... it cold have been worse.

I went sideways up o`rouge in 4th gear earlier that day, and did a few of the 180 degrees and 90 degrees sideways as well there are huuuuuuge off sones there, so you can really push it and do new things with 0 damage. but I manged to stay on track at all times (dunno how, luck?)

so guys.... check your bolts! solid mounts adds a LOT of vibrations.

I sorta like the half and half measure like Brian's. For a road/track car that is. That Polyurethane should absorb a fair bit of vibration. Have you had a chance to drive with these on yet Brian?

Besides the crisper shifting while cornering that I noticed, the other thing I like about the solid tranny mount is that it removes the 2nd order weight shift when entering a corner.

You have to have a stiff suspension and sticky tires to feel it, but entering a corner my car would take a set, then a half second later I would feel the rear shift a little as the tranny mass finally stopped swinging. Can be a little hairy when driving on the edge, but I don't feel it anymore w/ the solid mount.
