I agree 100%, a 951 is a poor choice for a mobile office

My 944 has exceptionally good home and is well loved. I also enjoy this forum as a brainstorming excercise on how the car can be improved. Because of a recent discussion on this forum, I will be adding a new cam, springs and titanium retainers to increase the usuable rpm range. I selected my vendor (JME) based on recommendations from this forum. I picked up on the Garrett GT30R from this forum as well. The communal knowledge of this group is fantastic.

The 944 is an outstanding piece of engineering and a leader in its time. However, my Jeep is the better choice for driving in snow or off road. The Mustang is the better mobile office in Seattle wet weather and never ending traffic jams. I would no more use my 944 in these roles than I would attempt to track the Jeep or Mustang.

Don't take any of these comments as being disloyal to the 944. I am a believer. I just believe in the right tool for the right application.

HAHA woohoo friday night entertainment.

I'll admit, I try to resist driving the 951 in the rain. Two reasons, Phone dials are not wide enough and I'm tired of cleaning mud and sand from the fender/under carriage. After the current body project is done its not going to see rain until I have some 10s out back.

Needless, I did have fun when I did drive it in the rain for a year or so.

Oh yeah, it was the rain that informed me I had a battery tray leak.

As for the 740il being unreliable... Im guessing it was a sub 1995 model? My e38 now has 120k and only problems have been brakes and suspension.

Hell my car hasn't seen rain in 20 years. I live in the desert though.

FYI, I had 235,000 miles on my 96' E38 750il. I'd still have it if it wasn't totaled from behind. The next guy bought it and my shop told me it finally died after he drove it until there was not oil in it at 243,000 miles. Best car I ever had.

Buddy. When did I ever say I can't drive in the rain? or that i'm afraid to? read my post first, i don't want to drive in the rain to prevent premature failure. This has nothing to do with skill idiot. Did you miss out on all the unreliable car trouble threads?

I doubt 99% of those failures were from driving in the rain..

I think it was implied in the "...my car is a princess...". As far as being unreliable that's BS. I drive mine in ALL weather and have never had a problem. If you are afraid of wetting the DME or other parts for that matter (your pants included), check for leaks and repair as necessary. These cars were meant to be driven...and not just on sunny days. As far the "unreliable threads" a well-taken care of Porsche will last a long time, however, as with any auto, parts do occasionally go bad and need replacing. Don't blame the rain, blame it on your preventive maintenance.

I use to drive in the rain up until yesterday. The wiper motor came to a grinding hault in the rain. I am currently looking for a motor. I sent a few PM's to rennlisters parting out their cars but have not found one yet. Does anyone have a spare working wiper motor? I have a 87 n/a.

I dont take my car out of the garage. I'm afraid of air, it could get in the cracks!

Wait, my garage has air in it, AHHHHHHHHHHG! BRB!
