Vitesse Stage3, V-flex, wasted spark - goes open road racing
Wanted to share my experience with my latest upgrade:
Vitesse Stage3 kit (turbo,maf,chip/board,piggyback,82lb injectors, resistors,etc)
Vitesse V-flex (map sensor, map based tuning chip image)
Vitesse wasted spark ignition / with magnecor wires
Relevant Supporting engine modifications (for the sake of full disclosure)
Bosh HV fuel pump, 3.0 FPR, Forge diverter valve, Tial 38 1 bar spring
Fabspeed cat less exhaust, LR stage3 intercooler, LR hard pipes
Installation:
No way around it, this was a big install. Can’t tell you number of hours as multiple other items were reworked in conjunction with this upgrade, but suffice it to say it is not a job to try to rush through.
Physical Components’ Fitment was as expected. The standard “fitting” modifications were performed: turbo mount clearancing was required; reworking external return spring assembly mounting; diverter valve plumbing; clearanced the wasted spark coil mount plate (seems may have been unique to my car); Reworked headlight bucket for desired MAF filter height/location (not required, I am particular with how I wanted it to fit)
Electronics installation was involved and time consuming. Lots of patience and soldering. This is the “price of admission” as they say.
Setup and support:
I cannot thank John enough for his assistance. Life delayed my installation until a few weeks before my planned open road race event. (Sandhills Open Road Challenge) www.sorcrace.com Overworked and exhausted I jumped in to the Stage3 install. John exchanged dozens of emails and numerous calls over a two week period. His prompt assistance and extraordinary support and guidance was priceless. Worked through a few minor issues and an issue that ended up being not related to the Vitesse products at all (soldered o2 sensor wiring – short answer - don’t do it). I was finalizing the tune at 4:30AM the morning we were leaving for the event.
Performance:
No dyno numbers yet (Target was for 350whp range at 15psi). Car is completely transformed. This is the car I have been looking for!! Excellent idle quality (82lb/hr injectors). Excellent road manners and drivability. Throttle response is crisp and much improved at all points. This car has never driven this nice in town.
VR Stage3 clearly makes significantly more power and across a nice broad rpm range. Under3,000 rpm crisper response and good AFRs. At 3,000 rpm the car comes to life – 3,500 up is the sweet spot. Absolutely no comparison whatsoever to before.
Standing mile event SORC:
18psi boost – 100 octane unleaded race fuel,
VR VFlex pump gas image (map readings pull ignition timing over 14psi)
1st run – gentle launch, short shifted every gear, feeling out road surface - 142.99mph.
2nd run – gentle launch , miss 3rd shift somehow, quick recovery. smelled a little clutch but decided that was my imagination 144.41mph.
3rd run - to 6500 in all gears, launched at 3500rpm, through the traps just over 6000rpm in 5th – should be160mph real world!!!!! Then reality -
eased out of the throttle to feel the clutch grab….. about that time overwhelmed by burnt *** clutch smell in the car. The clutch never grabbed from 5th shift. Actual trap mph was 132.50mph. EEEEK! I am betting “blued” flywheel
My goal was 160+mph in standing mile. Came up short, but managed to have fun and with enough clutch left to run the road race event.
SORC Road Race event:
The SORC road race event www.sorcrace.com is two legs totaling nearly 60 miles of fairly technical course. Lots of elevation change (rolling hills) unloads suspension some into road directional changes, decreasing radius turns, narrow roads with no shoulders and little or no runoff area, wet in a few spots, disabled race cars near racing course, unique road surface. Technical limit was 140mph in my class.
50% 92octane, 50% 100 octane fuel and 15 psi boost.
VR VFlex pump gas image (map readings pull ignition timing over 14psi)
This Stage3 setup is AWSOME! This event is 85-100mph through most of the twisty stuff with 120mph bursts between corners, and 140mph (tech limit) on the straights. This setup was in the sweet spot the entire event. Instant power on tap at all points. Amazing feeling to have immediate power through every entire corner with smooth power application. The old peaky setup would have been impossible to drive as smooth and fast through these corners especially at the apex and exit. Stage3 is smoother with huge power increase.
On the straights I never was able to run WOT the entire straight….. lifted and feathered throttle to maintain 155 speedo indicated (140mph real world) to keep from being Disqualified. Weird to have so much pedal on tap at a 140mph cruise speed. The entire event I drove the car fairly reserved as there is little margin for error in this environment. Pleased to discover plenty of “head room” to grow into the car.

Amazing job! Car looks gorgeous. Glad you had fun. Makes me want a Vitesse setup even more! (i didn't think it was possible)

The car is looking great. I'm glad you are enjoying the car and the products! Take care of the clutch, then you can play a bit more. There is lots of power left 
, even more when you try the E85.
(BTW you have 83# injectors not 82#. )

How big is the difference!!! Did you have a K26-6 before. Is it a 2.5L or 3.0L
any internals?
