Default Vitesse Stage 5 Spool Up

14.5psi at 3k rpms. I have CA pump gas for the moment, so keeping the boost around 1 bar. This is on a 104.5 x 88 cc motor...

Wrong question.
This will probably be the most torque of any 944 ever seen anywhere.

Be careful, Tom.

Tom, if you have a chance later...
If you could run that slider over to just before you dropped the thrtottle on this same log, that would be appreciated.

ST: It appears I didn't save that file -- I have another at about 13psi if helpful...
RA: If memory serves, it was 5th
Todd: I think you can calibrate the zeitronix sotware for the tps, but I never bothered
Dillion: we'll see once I get to dyno, but it scoots...

Tom, if I ever make it out west, you got to give me a ride. The AFR looks great! I like the linear boost buildup, very smooth line. This car will be fun to drive on the track! Another test will be to log the turbo recovery between shifts.

If possible, get a log file and save it. It'll be good data to compare with another log when you upgrade the cam.

Make sure you set the overboost via the PiggyBack. This turbo will make lots of boost (30+) to redline.

My experience so far with my stage V has not been so good. However the recent discussion with Tom in the other forum got me thinking and after doing some tests today I think I may have a leak pre turbo which could account for the fuel/ exhaust smell I get on boost. I have looked for leaks before but have not been able to visibly find any or hear any. Not sure what the best thing to do is as nothing is apparent on tickover, is the only way to strip out the headers and crossover?

Yes, although taken after the smt6 (since the smt6 tracks the pre-smt6 voltage). Just realized I need to re-plug my Laust egt...

You are welcome to a ride anytime. The A/F ratio is largely your handiwork, with a little fine-tuning via the SMT6. (Everytime I think about all the hassles of my old ARC2, with terrible results, I bang my head on the table.) I have a similar log file for comparison, at 13.5psi -- and the cam is going in as we type...

30psi to redline, huh? I have only verified 22psi to redline so far. But give me a little time...

Agreed, I wouldn't be too quick to think the turbo is causing your issues. I'm not sure others are getting 1bar at 3k, but I have not heard other stage 5 owners have any issues with their spool up. Are you using the full stage 5 with maf, smt6, etc.? Over time, you can usually spot exhaust leaks by the carbon/soot marks -- provided your exhaust is reasonably clean. I assume you've confirmed zero intake leaks (smoked em out?), good a/f ratios, and that both your bypass valve and wastegate are in good shape and up to the job?

Bypass valve is new and have tried different spring combos to no avail. Intake system is all good, vaccum readings are good. I do not have the maf etc as I am on Motec. A/F is good but I dont have the benefit of John tuning my car remotely, however a couple different people have had a go at the mapping and the spoolup has not improved. I would not expect such a difference just from playing with the map, fine tuning to get 2-300 rpm but I am a long way off. Could exhaust leaks pre turbo make this much difference? I have no problem making 18psi up top just not getting the spoolup....

Having started with a 968 and doing most of the work myself it has taken a while to get to this stage. Only now do I have my intake temps under control which means attention is turning to the spoolup which is the last link in getting the performance where I want it. If it does turn out to be the turbo (I hope its not) then I will go for a slightly faster spooling turbo with the added benefit being able to change to a BB core while I am in there. However I want to make sure the fundamentals are right first as no point in fixing what isnt broken!
