With the banana arms out of the car what is the best way of removing the 380ftlb hub nut? (pls dont say refit it back on the car).
The factory and haynes manuals both simply say 'remove the nut', they are very helpful in that way somethimes. Bit like saying refiting is the reversal of removing, when you know that more sh*t always happens when you put stuff back together.

At what pressure do you have your regulator set? If it's at the recommended 90 (or so) PSI, try cranking it up to 100 - 110. Won't really harm the gun for a short burst and will up the torque significantly which may well be enough to crack them loose, even with a small compressor and gun... they only have to deliver for a second or two.

Impact wrench is #1.
I have taken a breaker bar and placed it though the wheel studs with one end against the floor. Get another breaker bar with a 6-8 foot pipe extension and put it on the nut. With someone standing on the arm, push or jump on the extension.
One word of advise, torque the nut and then drive for a bit and torque again. Repeat the drive and torque until it doesn't turn. I have seen a fair amount of rear nuts that would turn another 10-20 degrees to reach torque after being driven.

In my experience, the impact gun at the bmw shop I work at was able to get the nut off, and it's just the average type of gun any mechanic shop would have. YMMV.
